Job Description

A Senior UX Researcher is a critical position on our CXRD team! We work with product designers and cross-functional team-members to uncover insights about our customers' needs and help build data-driven products at Viasat. Are you passionate about User Experience? We're looking for someone who is a hardworking advocate for rigor and ethics throughout the research process and wants to play an active role in making human-centered products!

For this role, an ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in digital product development, specifically B2B and enterprise digital products involving complex data visualization and UX design and can quickly incorporate research into the process, drawing on their expertise and understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodology. This candidate will be seen as a partner and will help teach and guide designers and cross-functional team members in how to understand user problems and apply research to their work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with product designers and cross-functional team-members to define research questions and develop research plans
  • Help partners incorporate complex technical or business requirements
  • Assist lead researcher and lead designers in defining a research back-log while managing incoming research needs
  • Design and execute both generative (e.g. contextual inquires, interviews, surveys) and evaluative research (e.g. concept evaluations, moderated and unmoderated usability tests, clicks tests, tree tests)
  • Ability to a wide- range of research methodologies utilizing remote and in-person testing tools (e.g. UserZoom, Userinterviews, D-Scout)
  • Assist product designers with prototypes and stimulus for research (physical and digital)
  • Build and develop frameworks and research artifacts to help facilitate sensemaking (e.g. journey maps, personas)
  • Stay informed on emerging UXR standard methodologies and trends in UX industry
Requirements:
  • 4-5 years experience with a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research including generative (e.g. contextual inquires, interviews, surveys) and evaluative methods (e.g. concept evaluations, moderated and unmoderated usability tests, clicks tests, tree tests)
  • Knowledge and experience web, mobile-web and native mobile technologies and agile software development processes Bachelors degree in a human behavior-related field (e.g. Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Information Science) or equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience working in a UXR function
  • Fluency with a wide-range of official (e.g. Excel, UserZoom, Userinterviews, D-Scout, Dovetail) and unofficial UXR tools (Post-its, Freehand, Figjam, Mural)
  • Efficient and methodical with synthesis and analysis (e.g. data hygiene)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills
  • Excellent collaboration and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work onsite 40% of the time in the Carlsbad, CA or Austin, TX office

At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. For United States-based jobs only: The pay range for this position is $108100 to $178300 annually; however, base pay may vary within this range depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
