Lab Manager - Patapoutian Lab

The Patapoutian lab, an HHMI laboratory at Scripps Research Institute, is seeking a lab manager to supervise and perform technical and administrative tasks. We are a very collaborative and intellectually curious group. You will oversee management of lab, including mouse colony, supervise lab technicians, and contribute experimentally to research projects.

What you'll do:
  • Manage day-to-day activities within the research laboratory, including insuring operation of essential equipment, stocking supplies, arranging material transfers, reviewing budgets, and managing animal and safety protocols.
  • Develop and implement laboratory guidelines.
  • Train incoming and current personnel, supervise research technicians.
  • Maintain protocols and proper documentation.
  • Oversee and maintain mouse colonies.
  • Contribute significantly to scientific projects.
    • Perform animal procedures and behavioral experiments
    • Perform basic molecular biology experiments including PCR, QPCR, cloning, and immunohistochemistry.
What you bring:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in biomedical or related sciences.

Experience:

  • Two years of lab experience (preferably experience in molecular biology and/or working with rodents). Some supervisory experience preferred. Salary and title commensurate with experience.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances.

Compensation Range

$70,070.00 (minimum) - $87,500.00 (midpoint) - $113,740.00 (maximum)

Pay Type:

Annual

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
