Academic Partnerships is growing! Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Instructional Design, the Instructional Designer will be a consultant and principal point of contact for university partners' program leadership and faculty members for course development, quality assurance, and ongoing support efforts related to online courses. The instructional designer will be responsible for course development consultation at universities from start-to-finish while consulting on best practices in curriculum design and development, program mapping, implementation of common program elements, online student orientation, technology tool recommendations, and branded university course shells. Responsibilities also include addressing program-level instructional design challenges, assisting faculty with the use of custom templates within a variety of Learning Management System, conducting faculty workshops both in person and virtually on industry best practices, and building and cultivating relationships with university faculty, program chairs, and instructional design teams.

Main Responsibilities


  • Serve as a thought partner for faculty and program directors to help deliver high-quality online courses and programs, keeping course projects successfully ontrack
  • Champion instructional design recommendations that are based in learning science and contribute to student satisfaction and learning outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with on-campus online learning and technology teams to support their work withfaculty
  • Thoughtfully discuss multiple levels of course development, from program-level vision to course structure to hands-on guidance regarding specific course components and media.
  • Deliver online workshops for small groups offaculty, leveraging existing Academic Services resources and/or creating job aids, tools, resources, or templates to assist faculty or scale production processes.
  • Actively contribute to the success of the Academic Services team with a spirit of continuous innovation, process improvement, and operational excellence.


Job Requirements


  • MA/MS/MEd.in field related to Instructional Design, Training & Development; Educational Technology; Curriculum and Instruction; or comparable professional experience.
  • 2+ years' experience in online higher education or corporate training and development.
  • 2+ years' experience working with Learning Management Systems or other educational technology.
  • Experience teaching at the secondary level in online or blended learning environments or experience mentoring faculty in course mapping and online course conversion.
  • Knowledge of Quality Matters Rubric or OLC Scorecard.
  • Passion for creating high-quality online courses and learningexperiences
  • Ability to work well and communicate with others, both synchronously and asynchronously.
  • Adeptness with and enthusiasm for working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and/or other educational technology tools.
  • Excellent follow-through, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theory.
