.NET/Data Engineering Principal Engineer I (REMOTE)

GEICO is looking for a Principal Engineer to build GEICO's next generation Underwriting as a Service platform. The platform will be used to launch insurance products expediently and be engineered to scale up and extend to any insurance line of business. We're looking for engineering leaders who are interested in teaching and mentoring others in Agile and other best practices. The candidate must have excellent coding, problem-solving, and analytical skills backed with good verbal and written communication skills. Experience with the Microsoft Azure and application infrastructure related activities is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have solid experience "working backward" to understand and solve the pain points of the customers.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience

  • 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks

  • 6+ years of experience designing and developing solutions for large-scale data systems, services, and platforms.

  • 4+ years of experience implementing & architecting modern data pipeline solutions(Azure strongly preferred).

  • 4+ years of experience in designing and building solutions for data security, data quality and observability, metadata management, data lineage, and data discovery.

  • 3+ years of experience with Cloud DevOps Concepts, Cloud Services and Architecture, and Azure native stack like ADF, EventHub, Databricks, and AKS.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (or related field)

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience designing and developing solutions for large-scale data systems, services, and platforms.

  • Experience implementing & architecting modern data pipeline solutions (Azure strongly preferred).

  • Fluency and Specialization with at least two modern languages such as Java, C++, Python or C# including object-oriented design.

  • Exemplary ability to design, perform experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmap.

  • Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production.

  • Practical knowledge of working in Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban/SAFe).

  • Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.

  • In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms.

  • Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches.

  • Experience in designing and building solutions for data security, data quality and observability, metadata management, data lineage, and data discovery.

  • Experience of Cloud DevOps Concepts, Cloud Services and Architecture, and Azure native stack like ADF, EventHub, Databricks, and AKS.

  • Experience in Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, Azure Databricks, Azure Event Hub

  • Deep knowledge and experience with SQL, database design/structures, ETL/ELT design patterns, and DataMart structures (star, snowflake schemas, etc.).

  • Data Engineering experience focused on developing batch and real-time data pipelines, Data processing/transformation using ETL tools, Snowflake and DBT.

  • Expertise in designing and implementing large-scale multi-tenant data pipeline (TB or PB in size), including Change Data Capture (CDC) solutions for structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data in batch and real-time environments

  • Experience with data integration through APIs, Web Services, SOAP, and/or REST services

  • Experience designing and implementing data pipelines for consumption by machine learning and BI solutions.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and able to meet deadlines.

  • A strong passion for supporting peers to help meet timelines on larger projects. Have a solid intellectual curiosity to continually challenge what exists and explore what should be changed to best meet evolving business and market.

  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with internal and external customers and all levels of management, including communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.

Annual Salary

$100,000.00 - $204,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
