About this Position:

In this role you will be responsible for planning and coordinating the Prototype phase of New Model projects. You will provide technical engineering expertise to ensure the quality of the prototype vehicle and work with design and test associates to solve problems and develop countermeasures.

Responsibilities include:

Metal Fabrication - Prototype Development



  • Fabricate and/or modify parts and components to design intent, maintaining high accuracy from drawings or CAD data.to support prototype vehicle development.
  • Utilize MIG/TIG welders, saw, shear, NC metal brake, grinder, water jet cutting and other fabrication equipment to make/modify parts or components.
  • Weld from a variety of positions to obtain proper strength and appearance.
  • Collaborate with design and test associates to achieve the goals of each project.
  • Develop skills and expertise in Metals cutting, forming, and Welding (MIG, TIG).
  • Utilize Catia 3D design to create or modify parts and fixtures and program Waterjet.
  • Optimize equipment and procedures with a priority on safety and efficiency.


New Model Project Management




  • Evaluate project scope, determine resources required and coordinate schedules.



  • Coordinate technical support for new development or research projects.



  • Research prototype equipment and facility investments to support long-term strategy.



  • Manage annual operating supplies and training/travel budget.




New Model Troubleshooting & Problem Solving




  • Analyze Catia design data and part quality to identify and solve potential problems.



  • Evaluate Honda Engineering Standards and design specification applications.



  • Work with design and test associates to solve problems and propose design changes.



  • Utilize prototype expertise to design tools or parts to improve performance/accuracy.





Required Work Experience:




  • 10 years related work experience




Required Education:




  • Bachelor's degree in science / engineering preferred or equivalent experience




Desired skills:




  • High attention to detail



  • Excellent communication skills



  • Project management experience



  • Problem solving skills



  • Advanced knowledge of vehicle construction and assembly



  • Advanced Hand Tool Experience



  • Experience Welding, Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, and other Alloys.



  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing



  • Advanced CATIA V5 operation



  • Basic electrical and mechanical skills



  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
