Locksmith

Alfred University invites candidates to apply for the open Locksmith position. The Locksmith will perform journeyman level locksmith work requiring expertise in installing, maintaining, altering and repairing different types of building lock and key systems, codes systems, alarms and gate hardware. This includes fire doors that are connected to the local fire alarm and emergency services departments. This involves 1,198 doors/locks within the NYSCC buildings, of which 150 electronic locks require special software for operation.

Responsibilities:

• Full-time performance of all repair, maintenance, installation and record keeping activities concerning locking mechanisms, including purchasing and inventory.
• Uses a variety of small hand and bench tools to repair and install locks, set lock cylinders, change lock combinations, manufacture parts of lock mechanisms, keyless entry system, code systems and open jammed locks.
• Compiles and maintains related records, extensive key and lock assignments, inventory, databases, tracking and core records electronically in a State institution.
• Uses knowledge of procurement services to obtain best pricing information from various vendors to support cost-effective purchasing.
• Performs maintenance tasks in assisting other journey level workers in the maintenance force. This may include minor mechanical repairs on College Motorpool vehicles as it relates to access and keys.

Requirements:

• Formal Education: HS diploma
• Experience: Three years of full-time experience under a skilled journey level locksmith which provided training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Training gained by apprentice training in servicing and repairing locks and related building hardware or completion of technical courses may be substituted for the above training and experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Preferred Software Skills: Microsoft Windows (Outlook, Word, Excel), Saflok Card, Best Key, Key Keeper systems. Digital Lock (Trilogy) windows software and Unimarket
