The Multi-Trades employee will perform maintenance and repairs to facilities and equipment utilizing skills in automotive/engine repair, mechanical/HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and grounds/landscaping (collectively the "Trades"). They will report to the Ceramics Physical Plant Director and the Ceramics Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair NYSCC facilities, grounds and equipment as directed by Ceramics Physical Plant Director and Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assist the Trades within Ceramics Physical Plant as directed by Ceramics Physical Plant Director and Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Safely operate equipment and machinery associated with the Trades.
  • When assigned mechanical duties, the duties will also include: perform major and minor repairs on Ceramics vehicles and motorized equipment, fill vehicles with fuel and fluids, clean and inspect vehicles regularly, keep daily logs of usage, gas and mileage, prepare reports on vehicle cost records for state vehicles, maintain tools and parts inventory, snow removal from facilities and grounds, assist with mowing of grounds as needed.
  • When assigned landscaping duties, the duties will also include: Manage existing plantings and develop and execute new planting plans, maintain grounds, roads and sidewalks, including snow removal, pruning, grass cutting, sweeping walkways and lots, raking, watering, and fertilizing grounds, weeding, mulching, and other typical landscaping activities on a college campus.
  • When assigned mechanical/RV AC, electrical and plumbing ("MEP") duties, the duties will also include: regularly maintain and repair mechanical/RV AC, electrical and plumbing systems for Ceramics facilities and equipment, assist with campus construction projects as directed, provide assistance and serve as back-up for the Trades, respond to MEP emergencies, keep preventative maintenance logs and records.
  • Senior show set-up and take down.
  • Moving labs, offices equipment, etc.
  • Campus/building clean up.
  • Respond to safety and weather emergencies as directed by Ceramics Physical Plant Director and Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Prepares and maintains written records of work performed and completed and accounts for labor and material used.
  • Duties will involve the Trades and (as applicable to duties assigned by Ceramics Physical Plant Director and Maintenance Supervisor) activities requiring knowledge of Confined Space, Lockout Tag-out, CFC's-A.C. and refrigeration equipment, chemicals purchased and MSDS updates, forklift training, daily logs, cooling tower chemicals-training-application of bio and microbiocides, weekly self-contained breathing apparatus check, weekly satellite accumulation area data, monthly building inspection for safety reports.
  • Monthly inspections and creation of data logs: exit lights, emergency lights, fire extinguishers, exit doors, fire hose valve cabinets, stairways, electrical panels.
  • Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment.

Requirements:

  • Formal Education: A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required. Participation in technical school training or an apprenticeship program is desired
  • Experience: A minimum of two years experience as a skilled tradesperson with appropriate experience, which will vary, based on the assigned responsibilities in the Trades.
  • Additional Knowledge/Skills:
    • Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the Trades.
    • Working knowledge of the principles of plant operations.
    • Working knowledge of applicable agency standards and of appropriate building and construction code regulations.
    • Working knowledge of safety procedures.
    • Ability to use the tools, machines, equipment and the materials of the Trades.
    • Ability to operate heavy equipment and machinery safely.
    • Ability to plan and schedule work, equipment, and supplies needed.
    • Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications.
    • Ability to make standard arithmetic computations to calculate the dimensions of the project or building under construction, identify the proper placement of important structural components of the project or building, and calculate the quantity of materials and labor required to complete the project or building.
    • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
