Position Summary:
Work on-campus as the Center for Pre-College Program (CPCP) MSI Assistant for the NJIT/Newark Math Success Initiative (MSI) - the academic year component held during the fall and spring semesters (15 weeks per semester) which is implemented through the CPCP and the Department of Mathematical Sciences at NJIT! The MSI program is designed to identify and strengthen Newark high school students' mathematics knowledge, skills, and preparation of college work. Program participants are 12th graders from five public high schools within the Newark school district. The CPCP MSI Assistant works collaboratively with the CPCP Director of Special Projects and project team to support the student's dismissal from campus after class. The MSI Assistant ensures the efficient day-to-day safe boarding and monitoring of student attendance on the NBOE bus
transportation prior to the bus leaving campus. The attendance will be recorded on a daily attendance sheet that is maintained by CPCP - Special Projects office for the project. Employment and/or continued employment are subject to successfully passing State Mandated Criminal Background Check. There is one (1) CPCP MSI Assistant position available.

Essential Functions:
- Monitors students' behaviors before boarding the NBOE bus transportation.
- Ensures effective, efficient, and timely lines of communications between the NBOE bus driver, Director of Special Projects and CPCP MSI project team regarding any issues with the MSI students' or NBOE bus transportation while on campus before the bus leaves to return the student to their high school. To ensure that no student is left behind.
- Assists in the recordkeeping of student's bus attendance during the program implementation.
- Attends all staff development and training sessions, where appropriate.
- Serves as an informal mentor through leading by example to provide support and assistance to students' safe return to their high school.

Additional Functions:
- The CPCP MSI Assistant is required to attend meetings with the Director of Special Projects or MSI program staff, when appropriate.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Applicants should be enrolled in (and near degree completion) or have a bachelor's degree in education, school counseling, or a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field.
- Relevant experience in the supervision of pre-college students.
- Applicants must be available for mandatory training prior to starting the position at the beginning of the academic year.
- Applicants must be available every weekday, on a daily basis, to work the duration of the academic year from September 2022 through May 2023 on campus.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be waived where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university that an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically prepares the candidate for success in the position.
