Senior Economic Analyst

Job Summary

Provides assistance to API segments (e.g., Downstream and Upstream) and departments (e.g., Communications, Federal Relations) by providing critical information and analysis to support key policy objectives. Conducts economic research and analysis in support of objectives related to policy issues facing the petroleum industry.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Works effectively within API departments to provide economic policy expertise, including:
    1. Conducting review/analyses of economic studies and legislative proposals.
    2. Providing oversight of contractors on economic studies.
    3. Presenting findings of analyses to internal and external audiences.
  • Gathers economic and other policy-related data for shorter term analyses.
  • Constructs maps as needed for API research and advocacy efforts.
  • Provides quick response papers in areas of expertise on issues affecting the petroleum industry.
  • Provides critical assessment of published economic analysis in relevant areas and provides technical "peer review" on papers prepared by other API staff, where appropriate.
  • Actively contributes to achievement of Policy Analysis Department goals by providing input to various policy-related department initiatives.
  • Participates in outreach efforts related to areas of responsibility.
  • Presents API studies to outside groups in areas of her expertise.

Qualifications

  • Requires 3-5 years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area, or other related field equivalent work experience. Some positions may only require an Associates degree/technical diploma, or other related field equivalent work experience.
  • Professional experience in energy or environmental related field.
  • Experience on climate related issues and/or Upstream/Midstream/Downstream Issues a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess studies related to the economic impacts of regulations and to provide analysis as needed.
  • Ability to handle multiple issues concurrently and to prioritize.
  • Flexible and capability to work on new issues as needs arise.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high work quality.
  • Excellent communications (written, verbal and graphical), planning, organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Capable of lifting up to 20lbs on occasion.

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 10% but may vary based on individual job needs and function.

Percentage of travel time expected for the position, where the travel occurs, such as locally or in specific countries or states, and whether the travel is overnight.
