Related positions are contingent on board approval. Coordinates K-12 literacy efforts within Baltimore City Public Schools (City Schools), including but not limited to assessments, curriculum, and professional development. The literacy coordinator will assist with the development and revision of curriculum aligned to both the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards and the City Schools Instructional Models for Literacy. They will work with partners and vendors to identify quality practices and resources, as well as design professional development to support teaching and learning in the district.
Essential Functions
- Plans and coordinates the implementation of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards for Literacy.
- Develops and delivers ongoing professional development around best practices in literacy.
- Uses data collected to strategically support the needs of teachers and schools.
- Develops and provides appropriate guidance for schools and school leaders on best practices in literacy.
- Coordinates and develops curriculum and assessments for literacy.
- Collaborates with multiple offices across the organization to ensure cohesive implementation of literacy initiatives.
- Works in partnership with a highly motivated team from multiple offices to advance teaching and learning in the district.
- Ensures communication with matters related to literacy.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement.
- Three years teaching experience in English/languages, preferably in elementary and secondary.
- Three years' experience developing and delivering professional development to teachers.
- Extensive knowledge of the Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards, and development of curriculum, assessments, and professional development for literacy.
- Knowledge and experience in literacy curriculum development and test creation.
- Experience managing large scale projects.
- Knowledge of current research in elementary literacy best practices.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team of individuals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of multiple computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, PD Tracking and reporting software, databases, and Online Professional Learning software.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules and policies affecting City Schools' educators.
