Job Summary
The Athletic Trainer provides care for and aids in the prevention of athletically-related injuries, including therapeutic rehabilitation to allow for return to competition, while prioritizing the welfare of student-athletes.
Job Description
1. Serve as an authority, provide expertise, and perform highly specialized work in field.

2. Exercise knowledge and methodology of a profession or specialized field.

3. Keep abreast of relevant legislation, rules, regulations, tools, procedures, technical specifications, and developments in the field.

4. Pursue professional development activities to expand knowledge.

5. Provide specialized services, investigate and trouble-shoot problems.

6. Plan and execute complex projects in field of expertise.

7. Analyze data and information, evaluate and summarize findings.

8. Research, conceptualize, define and communicate ideas and issues; provide insight, recommend action, and pursue solutions to problems.

9. Provide advice and counsel, serving as a "consultant" to other staff members within the unit, campus, or the general public, within the unique area of expertise.

10. Formulate policy based on judgment and expert knowledge of a particular area.

11. Identify and evaluate resources and obtain information relevant to a specialized area.

12. Coordinate working relationships with peers and other appropriate University personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives.

13. May supervise and/or train other staff members or students.

14. Represent the unit on various campus committees or teams related to the specialize area.

15. Act as liaison with other skilled specialists throughout the state and nationwide.

16. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, plus two years of relevant experience; National Athletic Trainers Association ( NATA) certification; first aid, CPR and AED certification; ability to work flexible schedule and travel with teams to away contests, where necessary.
As a staff member within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the person assuming this position is responsible for knowledge of and compliance with institutional, conference and NCAA rules, both those general in nature and those which apply specifically to their job responsibilities. Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA rules is a condition of employment in this position.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree;
  • Advanced training or experience in a collegiate or professional sports environment.

The person assuming this position must possess: interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies; critical thinking and problem solving aptitude; ability to initiate appropriate action to resolve challenging issues; organizational and time management skills to effectively prioritize and manage projects; and conscious customer service orientation.
