Engineering Manager - Data (REMOTE)

The Data Engineering department is seeking highly motivated leaders to help lead and grow GEICO's data management capabilities. The Data Management Services team as the Data Governance - Technology, will work with multiple data sources within the GEICO data ecosystem to drive our Data Discovery & Data Lineage Program. This position is for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers to design, develop and support Data Discovery & Data Lineage use cases and capabilities. In this role, you will lead one to two engineering teams and collaborate with platform engineering team, TPMs, architects and stakeholders to iteratively build robust data inventory features leveraging modern data technologies.

The Data Management team will not only build the mechanisms to enforce data discovery requirements but will also work to build a culture that encourages everyone to identify data at risks and support data protection strategies. You will be an integral part of the engineering and implementation of GEICO's next generation of cloud data management tools that are developer centric by using data as code, which can be leveraged for GEICO's transformation in the digital space.

The qualified candidate will focus on all aspects of design, analysis, and implementation of the new data discovery platform. The candidate will work within a team of software cloud and IT engineers, as well as analysts, to build a high performing cloud-based solution that seamlessly integrates with our various cloud ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have hands on development work and will also define a strategy for adoption of all our new data discovery services. Lastly, you will partner and work closely with the Enterprise Data Governance team and Cybersecurity to ensure that the platform supports and aligned with the needs of our governance initiatives.

Responsibilities:

- Lead people, products, and process and be a thought leader to innovate how we transform into a data driven organization

- Demonstrate strategic thinking and strong planning skills to establish long term roadmap and business plan

- Strong relationship building to establish and foster great relationships with Tech teams and business partners

- Able to work independently while functioning as part of a cohesive cross-functional management team

- Coach, develop, and manage associates, including establishing goals and evaluating performance

- Empower team by fostering a culture that allows critical thinking and open communication

- Work with stakeholders to establish and meet data discovery requirements, SLAs and SLOs for data ingestion

- Strong development experience and an manage and lead full stack developers

Required Qualifications:

- 2+ years of experience in an IT leadership position or experience with managing and organizing technical projects

- 4+ years of leadership experience leading, coaching, and developing teams and associates in data engineering or similar role

- 5+ years of experience in Agile frameworks and methodologies

- 5+ years enterprise IT experience across data engineering, software engineering, DevOps, or architecture roles

- System level troubleshooting abilities crossing multiple applications is highly desirable

- Strong understanding of data Ingestion / integration, data transformation, data management, data quality, and data lineage services and technologies

- Ability to prioritize and drive results based on business value to the organization

- Strong critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills

- Excellent verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate to both Senior Leadership, highly technical and non-technical audiences

- Experience developing and implementing associate development programs to address sustainable development of relevant technical knowledge

Annual Salary

$110,000.00 - $236,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
