Facility Maintenance Mechanic - Aquaculture Feed Facility (Angleton, TX)

General Purpose and Scope of Position:

The maintenance technician will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of facility equipment from a day-to-day standpoint. They will also be expected to be an integral member of the safety program and workplace leaders in the aspect of safety and operations. The maintenance technician will be responsible for preventative maintenance, ongoing machinery management, and some training for employees on basic operational and maintenance functions to ensure efficient operations with all aspects of the facility.

  • Preferred- experience and skills in many facets of industrial operations, including; welding, electrical, bearings, chains, shafts, belts, electric motors, etc.
  • Ensures a safe work environment for the team by demonstrating and enforcing safe behavior. Manages maintenance planning functions


    • Maximizing production line operating time by minimizing equipment breakdown loss time
    • Maximizing equipment reliability through using planned maintenance most effectively
    • Serve as primary CMMS administrator and operator to process work requests and orders, and preventive maintenance orders
    • Develop, maintain and manage PM program to achieve industry-standard of PM vs. DM
    • Provide metrics on preventive and demand maintenance actions completion and overdue aging reports
    • Develop maintenance procedures for new equipment based on manufacturers' recommendations and ensure implementation
    • Participate in Root Cause Analysis of equipment failures and production time loss issues
    • Plan and oversee all repair activities
    • Allocate the workload of maintenance technical staff and contracted resources during maintenance periods including self
    • Plan and coordinate Weekend Maintenance activities with all affected departments
    • Work with production leaders to coordinate maintenance actions that can be completed when equipment is operating.


  • Maintain & Build relationships with contractors and service providers

    • Keep maintenance performance metrics and report on daily activities
    • Ensure personnel safety and food safety policies and GMPs are complied with
    • Creates a positive work environment for the maintenance team.
    • Provide feedback to the team on plant and equipment performance on a daily basis
    • Develop team members to successfully perform all aspects of maintenance operations
    • Perform other duties as assigned
    • Assumes responsibility for own personal development and continuous learning.
    • Keeps abreast on new technology, methods, and regulations related to pet food production and industrial process equipment
    • Practices customer with internal and external customers in day-to-days responsibilities

    Education and Experience:



    • 3-5 years' experience in facility maintenance
    • Experience in feed or aquaculture operations is a plus


    Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables:



    • Lead by example. This is a hands-on role
    • Work with existing maintenance personnel to coordinate major equipment repair, oversee preventative maintenance programs, follow the monthly preventive maintenance schedule, monitor parts inventory levels, and maintain written machinery maintenance SOPs
    • Responsible for and abide by all aspects of plant and employee safety as outlined in the Wilbur-Ellis Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System
    • Follow all safety, regulatory, and administrative policies and procedures
    • Meet and complete all WECO regulatory safety requirements
    • Ensure equipment passes employee safety inspections, food safety inspections, and quality control inspections and meets OSHA standards
    • Ensure safe operation of company equipment
    • Present a professional image to our internal and external customers through personal appearance and overall location cleanliness
    • Being the first point of contact with management when equipment goes down
    • Make accurate measurements to align and fit machine parts together
    • Operate tools and equipment, such as grinders, welders, cutting torch, etc. to modify machine parts for use in equipment
    • Tests equipment to make sure it is working properly
    • Takes machinery apart for replacement or repair and then adjusts, oils, fixes, and replaces machinery parts
    • Troubleshoots problems with equipment and adjust as necessary
    • Preferred -working understanding of the principles of extrusion, pelleting, particle size reduction, and dry bulk material handling
    • Additional responsibilities as assigned by management


    Compensation and Benefits:




    • In compliance with all states and cities that require transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $18.80 - $23.76 per hour. Note that wages may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for vacation, holidays, health, dental, vision, mental health, retirement plans, and other benefits.
