About the Job

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
A Postdoctoral Associate position to study spine biomechanics is available in the Minnesota Rehabilitation Biomechanics Laboratory (MRBL). The goals of the lab are to advance and implement biomarkers of spinal health based on the integration of motion and imaging techniques. The position will be to partially assist with studies to 1) investigate the intersegmental kinematics of the spine using biplane radiography and 2) assess intervertebral disc health using quantitative MRI techniques. The appointment is for one year, with the opportunity for renewal.

70%: Assist with studies to investigate the intersegmental kinematics of the spine using biplane radiography and quantify intervertebral disc health and integrity using quantitative MRI techniques. This individual will be involved all components of the study including recruitment, data collection and analysis, and dissemination of findings.

20%: Oversee day-to-day administrative operations for the Orthopedic Biomechanics Lab. Coordinates operations and maintains proper general work environment conditions, communicates with collaborators, partners, and vendors when necessary. Orders supplies and lab consumables, keeps records of documents. Proactively communicates with those utilizing the lab. Manages the training and oversight of events in the lab.

10%: Contribute to student mentorship which regularly incorporates PhD students from Rehabilitation Science and Biomedical Engineering, professional physical therapy students, medical residents, medical students, and undergraduate students and volunteers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Bioengineering, Rehabilitation Science, or a related field
- Programming experience in Matlab or related languages
- Demonstrated research and publication record
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Motion Analysis experience
- Biplane Radiography experience
- Background in medical imaging

The Postdoctoral Associate will join an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians in Rehabilitation Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Radiology, and Biomedical Engineering. This individual will have access to state-of-the-art equipment, including a Biplane Radiography system, the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute, and vast MRI resources at the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research.
