The Staff Specialist- Related Services will develop and implement project plans, promote policies, procedures and other administrative programs for the Related Services Unit and Office of Special Education.


Essential Functions



  • Assists in designing and implementing a plan for monitoring compliance with established standards at the system, area, and school levels.
  • Manages data and assists in analyzing and reporting compliance data and outcomes.
  • Supports related services leadership ability to lead extended project teams.
  • Works with related services leadership to complete all necessary reporting and audits.
  • Represents the Office of Special Education on inter and intra component workgroups.
  • Drives the documentation for projects, ensuring the accuracy and quality of regulatory data.
  • Prepares and submits appropriate written reports of missing services documentation to the Director and Coordinators of Related Services.
  • Assists in systems investigations as required.
  • Implements the prevention plan process to include: receiving, processing, tracking, and monitoring Prevention Plans to ensure efficient assignment and implementation of IEP services, to prevent service disruption for service areas which include: physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, psychology, social work services, audiology, and counseling services.
  • Monitors, reviews, synthesize, and analyze data files related to Prevention Plan activities and other documentation/data types, as assigned.
  • Develops and prepares reports and monthly statistics as requested by the Director and/or Coordinator of Relator Services.
  • Reviews related service provider logs and Third Party Billing documentation to ensure compliance; completes monthly data cleansing reports prior to billing submission to ensure compliance.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Desired Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in special education, education, statistics, information technology or a related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • Five years of professional experience preferably in an educational setting or business setting.
  • Knowledge of electronic data management, tracking, and reporting systems.
  • Proficient in the use of technical computer applications and relational databases including the use of MDOIEP, Microsoft Office and the ability to create Excel databases and generate reports/tables/charts.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet project deliverables and function effectively in a deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
