The equity officer provides visionary leadership and advances culture, health equity and social responsibility principles. The equity officer is a champion of culture, cultivating innovation, being resilient and inspiring others. They will chair the Health Equity Steering Committee, and lead a team dedicated to population health and equity to drive the definition and implementation of solutions that address and reduce those disparities to better support UnitedHealthcare Indiana program members. This position will be based in Indiana.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • In close coordination with the quality director and medical director, oversees the plan's annual strategic design, implementation and evaluation of health equity strategic plan efforts in the context of the plan's population health initiatives to achieve equitable access and reduce disparities in clinical care and quality outcomes
  • Leads a team dedicated to the improvement of population health and equity programs, and chairs the Health Equity Steering Committee
  • Tracks, assesses and improves disparities in care and supports the diverse cultural, language, disability, economic, education and health status needs of the Pathways and other programs
  • Collaborates with the plan's data analyst to make sure the plan collects and meaningfully uses race, ethnicity and language data to identify disparities
  • Identifies health disparities experienced by Indiana Medicaid populations and works with internal and external partners to build solutions that address and reduce those disparities
  • Coordinates and collaborates with members, caregivers, providers, local and State government and community-based organizations to improve health disparities at a population level
  • Verifies the annual health equity strategy plan meets the State's goals and UnitedHealthcare's operations are aligned across all functional areas
  • Represents UnitedHealthcare as key staff including attending and presenting at meetings with Office of Healthy Opportunities, Office of Medicaid Policy and Procedure, quality program regulators, and more
  • Verifies that efforts addressed at improving health equity, reducing disparities and improving cultural competence are designed collaboratively with other contracted managed care entities to have a collective impact for the population, and that lessons learned are incorporated into future decision making

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of professional work experience, preferably in Medicare/Medicaid, public health, social/human services, social work, public policy, health care, education, community development or justice
  • 5+ years of experience leading and developing broad scale organizational strategies
  • 5+ more years of experience interfacing with senior leadership team
  • Experience addressing health disparity and health equity concerns


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of experience leading and developing enterprise diversity, inclusion and equity strategies
  • Experience with MLTSS
