Holidays off, starting hourly rate of $18, and great benefits! That's right. As a member of our kitchen team, you will have holidays off, be paid for those days, and predominantly work weekdays. As a Dishwasher, you will collaborate with our dedicated and diverse kitchen team to provide exceptional quality of service to our colleagues as well as various conference visitors at our Headquarters campus. You will perform responsibilities in the kitchen, and throughout the campus as assigned. These will include assisting in the preparation of meals, dish washing, sanitation of the kitchen and dining room, and servicing and restocking of all food services areas as assigned. In addition, you will assist with sweeping and washing floors, trash removal, and recycling and composting. If there are staff shortages, you may be asked to assist with food service.

Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will follow production, sanitation, and safety standards, and have many opportunities to learn and grow in our kitchen.

You will work a part-time schedule (regularly scheduled to work 20 hours per week or more), Monday through Friday and approximately 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. We are ideally seeking a candidate with the flexibility to fill in for absences and assist with conferences and special events.

What you'll do:

  • Properly washes, rinses & sanitizes - china, glass & silverware

  • Properly stores clean china, glass & silverware in designated storage areas

  • Cleans and maintains sanitary workstation and equipment using established cleaning procedures and schedules.

  • Clean and maintain the Hobart dish machine according to manufacture requirement.

  • Cleans and maintains common areas of kitchen, back of house, front of house

  • Sweeps and mops floors in kitchen, pantries and other areas as assigned.

  • Removes trash and refuse, and cleans trash cans in the kitchen, meeting rooms and other areas as assigned.

  • Adheres to HHMI and HAACP policy and procedures; safety & sanitation.

  • Maintains kitchen janitor closet.

What you bring:

  • Previous work history as a utility steward in a restaurant or similar environment.

  • At least 6 months of experience in utility work within a hotel, restaurant, or food service environment

  • Ability to work with industrial cleaning supplies

  • Able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends if requested.

  • Candidate must understand the use of various kitchen equipment including, ovens, grill, steam kettle, meat slicer, blender, mixer, chopper, food processor, knives, convection oven, etc.

  • This position requires knowledge of floor care, trash, dish machine, and miscellaneous cleaning activities within a kitchen and office environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lifts and/or carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally stoops and bends.
  • Occasionally reaches and grasps with arms and hands.
  • Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are relatively few physical discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like.

Compensation Range

$12.70 (minimum) - $15.87 (midpoint) - $20.63 (maximum)

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
