Job Title: Senior Surgical Technologist - Cardiac Surgery Specialty

Job Description: As a Senior Surgical Technologist specializing in Cardiac Surgery at The George Washington University Hospital, you will be a vital member of our Level One Trauma Center's surgical team. Operating within a fast-paced and dynamic environment, you will play a critical role in assisting surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in delivering exceptional patient care during cardiac surgical procedures. Your expertise and leadership will be instrumental in upholding the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and quality within our operating rooms, particularly in the specialized field of cardiac surgery.

Sign On Bonus: $7,500. Relocation assistance offered to qualified candidates in addition to sign on.

Qualifications

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to meticulously prepare supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for complex cardiac surgical cases, ensuring seamless execution of procedures.
  • Anticipate the unique needs of the cardiac surgical team, demonstrating proficiency in passing specialized instruments and providing precise assistance throughout all stages of cardiac surgeries.
  • Assume responsibility for thorough case clean-up, meticulous patient positioning, careful patient transportation, and efficient room turnovers, maintaining a sterile and organized environment in strict adherence to hospital protocols.
  • Exhibit exceptional proficiency in spoken and written English, facilitating clear and precise communication within the cardiac surgical team and ensuring accurate documentation of intricate procedures.
  • Display strong organizational aptitude, sharp critical thinking skills, and an extensive understanding of medical terminology specific to cardiac surgery, enabling effective navigation of the demanding cardiac surgical environment.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of specialized cardiac surgical instruments, ensuring their efficient utilization and meticulous maintenance throughout cardiac surgical procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrate a proven track record of commitment, with a minimum of five years of sustained employment as a surgical technologist, with a significant portion of that experience dedicated to cardiac surgery. This requirement underscores our dedication to fostering long-term relationships with our team members and ensuring stability within our organization.
  • Possess current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Strong knowledge and experience in cardiac surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques, acquired through years of dedicated practice in a Level One Trauma Center or similar high-volume cardiac surgical environment.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, crucial for effective collaboration within the cardiac surgical team.
  • Ability to remain composed and focused under pressure, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to patient safety and the delivery of quality care.
  • Proficiency in utilizing surgical equipment and technology, including electronic medical records (EMRs) and imaging systems.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support the demanding nature of cardiac surgical care.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, ensuring readiness to respond to cardiac emergencies within the surgical setting.
