Job Description: Project Description: Safety Management for MTA Construction & Development (C&D) throughout the Five Boroughs of New York City

Description of Work:

The Senior Safety Director supports the growing MTA Construction and Development (C&D) safety oversight program. This role will further develop, maintain, and oversee the construction safety contractor management program.

May be requested to temporarily manage and lead Business Unit Safety teams based on operational needs.

Conducts unannounced safety inspections and field assessments of C&D projects as directed to identify hazards and noncompliance.

Works closely with construction business units' staff, contracts, legal, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Is a key stakeholder in the further development and implementation of MTA C&D's Safety Management Program including, among other responsibilities, monitoring and documenting metrics across Business Unit construction projects, monitoring implementation of corrective action plans, review and approve project safety related submittals.

Monitor adherence of the Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP) requirements and procedures.

Monitor project compliance to current OSHA Construction Safety requirements, C&D Safety Specifications and procedures.

Compile weekly and/or monthly personal work activity reports.

Perform any other assigned duties based on operational needs.

Other Work Requirements

The individual must pass a one-day NYC Transit Track Safety, Metro North Railroad or Long Island Rail Road Roadway Worker Protection courses prior to participating in any work for MTA projects that occurs on or near the track or wayside.

Must have a valid 30-hour OSHA certification in Construction Industry Safety (29CFR 1926).

Consultant shall be responsible for all their work safety boots that meet MTA C&D specifications.

Selected candidate to provide his/her own cell phone.
Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college in in engineering, architecture, construction management, safety engineering, safety management, construction safety
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Experience Requirements: Must have a minimum of five (5) years related safety experience in construction. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Desired Skills/Competencies/Training Requirements:

Experience with construction safety contractor management programs or providing oversight for 3rd party services/contractors.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.)

Strong business administrative skills (i.e., presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.)
Hours: Normal Work Week: Monday through Friday (nights/weekend based on project need); Rotating Emergency Coverage that include weekends and Holidays is required.

No. of Paid Hours Per Week: 40 (NYCT does not pay for lunch hours)

Hours of Work: 7:30 to 4:30

Administrative functions: 30%; Technical Functions: 70%

Field Locations 70%; Office Locations 30%

Other Information: Duration of Service Required: 52 weeks

Work Location: Reporting Location is 2 Broadway and field visits throughout the 5 boroughs as required.
