Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is recruiting for a Licensed Psychologist to fill in as needed to provide UCSC students with a wide range of mental health clinical and wellness services, as well as consultation and outreach services. CAPS, a unit within Student Health Services is committed to providing culturally appropriate services to our diverse student body, with focus on serving our marginalized and underrepresented students. CAPS provides in-person and tele-mental health services. Staff in this As Needed position can choose a hybrid or remote work schedule. We welcome qualified applicants who share our commitment to serving the mental health needs of our diverse student body.

The selected candidate may have the option to work a hybrid schedule. If a hybrid schedule is approved, the selected candidate must be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.

UC Santa Cruz (UCSC) Student Health Services (SHS) is a full-service medical facility offering clinical, educational, and psychological support to UCSC students. SHS is deeply committed to ensuring affordable, well-integrated, multidisciplinary healthcare that effectively supports the university's diverse campus communities through equitable access and culturally competent, high-quality programs and services.

The Primary Care Program includes primary care and same-day care, with the support of on-site radiology, a COLA-accredited high-complexity clinical laboratory and campus pharmacy.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) supports UCSC students to maintain or improve their general well-being by providing a broad range of counseling, psychiatric services, consultation and outreach services and programs.

Other areas include Student Health Outreach and Promotion (SHOP), home of the Condom Co-op; CARE (Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education) the advocacy and prevention education office that supports survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/domestic violence; and Student Insurance Programs.

Student Health Services employs approximately 120 staff including physicians, psychiatrists, case managers, lab scientists, pharmacists, nurses, radiologists, and many other clinical and administrative staff. Student Health Services welcomes staff with interest and experience in working with students with a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and gender identities.

JOB SUMMARY

The Licensed Psychologist, Generalist reports to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and is assigned duties by the Director as specified herein. The Licensed Psychologist will provide high-quality clinical services; and may provide community psychology/outreach supervision/training of doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows. In discharging these duties the Licensed Psychologist is expected to be keenly sensitive to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, socio-economic status, etc., and to be skilled with techniques for counseling students with diverse backgrounds.

All the Licensed Psychologist's activities are performed within the limits of standards and ethical principles of the California Board of Psychology, as well as, applicable legal mandates for mental health professionals in the State of California.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $55.14 - $60.88/hourly. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

100% - Direct Service

  • Provides brief counseling and psychotherapy with undergraduate and graduate students (individuals and couples) with a broad range of psychological problems
  • Provides crisis assessment and crisis intervention
  • Provides case management and referral services
  • Conducts group counseling and psychoeducational groups, and drop-in groups
  • Consults and collaborates with psychiatrists, physicians, campus entities (i.e. Slug Support, Disability Resource Center, and others) and off-campus mental health professionals, social agencies, and community resources to meet the mental health needs of students
  • Determines the need for other professional interventions and refers as necessary
  • May provide supervision and training of doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows as needed
  • May develop and implement outreach programs, trainings, and class presentations (up to 5% of time worked)
  • Other duties, as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid California licensure, in good standing, in Psychology
  • Demonstrated clinical experience with individuals using a brief therapy model
  • Demonstrated strong clinical and crisis management skills, including ability to work with high acuity students with complex mental health needs
  • Experience facilitating psychotherapy and psycho-educational groups
  • Demonstrated experience providing culturally affirming and responsive clinical services for a diverse client population
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues in the delivery of psychological services in a university or college setting
  • Demonstrated expertise with developmental and mental health issues of late adolescence
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and to effectively collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to be an effective team member, and evidence of professional behavior
  • Strong planning and organizational skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Counseling experience in a college/university setting
  • Experience and/or interest in supervision and training of doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows
  • Doctorate and internship from APA accredited program
  • Experience designing and implementing multiculturally sensitive outreach programs and psychoeducational workshops
  • Experience working with an underserved population relevant to the UCSC student body
  • Experience with ADHD assessment

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-hire criminal history background check and a pre-hire credentialing check.
  • Valid California licensure, in good standing, in Psychology
  • Must complete HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accessibility Act) Training within 30 days of hire
  • Will be required to comply with current Student Health Center employee health safety requirements for health care workers as defined by state and federal regulatory agencies; current health safety requirements to be discussed during interview
  • Must possess CPR/First Aid/AED certification or have the ability to obtain it within 60-calendar days of hire.
  • The selected candidate may have the option to work a hybrid schedule. If a hybrid schedule is approved, the selected candidate must be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule.
  • Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
