Learn more about the UC Office of the President DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW University of California Health comprises six academic health centers, 20 health professional schools, a Global Health Institute and systemwide services that improve the health of patients and the University's students, faculty and employees. The UC Health Finance and Administration (F&A) department provides strategic, administrative, and financial direction to support and optimize the overall effectiveness of UC Health. Led by the Associate Vice President, Finance and Administration, F&A teams work closely with the UC Health division, UC Health academic medical centers and UC Office of the President to provide innovative solutions to complex strategic matters and administer inclusive, efficient operational and financial support. POSITION SUMMARY The Director, Revenue Cycle leads system-wide performance improvement initiatives of the UC Health system. The Director is responsible for the discovery, planning, design and implementation of multiple strategic initiatives to deliver efficiencies and revenue enhancement. Reporting to the UC Health Associate Vice President of Finance & Administration, the Director has routine collaborative relationships with local Revenue Cycle leaders at each UC Health location. The position's scope of responsibility focuses on both the hospital-based and professional portion of the revenue cycle, in coordination with the site-based revenue cycle and medical group/physician leadership as needed. Responsibilities * 50% Systemwide Revenue Cycle Program Effectiveness: In coordination with executive system and facility leadership, sets system-wide priorities and works with peers to identify leading practice solutions that mitigate financial, operational or personnel-related risks/barriers; proactively identifies opportunities related to system-wide coordination and assumes oversight responsibility for the development, implementation and maintenance of system-level solutions; makes informed recommendations and decisions by evaluating quantitative and qualitative data; is able to identify trends across numerous data sources and create a business case that substantiates a call to action. Demonstrates experience in creating programs that promote consistency and accountability related to system-wide implementation initiatives. * 35% Engagement, Communication and Change Management: Effectively communicates at all levels, including key stakeholders outside of current revenue cycle focus such as the Medical Group/Faculty Practice and clinical departments; creates clear action plans for common goals in the midst of a complex set of opinions and conflicting priorities; acts as a leader among peers, generating buy-in and developing a consensus among stakeholders with differing opinions and environmental contexts as it relates to collaborative system-wide opportunities. Understands unique medical center environments and effectively leverages local leadership to represent issues/recommendations to executive leadership (currently delivered through engagement with the Revenue Cycle Governance Committee (RCGC) and the Revenue Cycle Executive Steering Committee (ESC); is adept at managing and leading through pervasive change and demonstrates consistency in values, principles and work ethic. Supports efforts to cross-collaborate with other UC Health initiative teams as needed. * 10% Best Practice Sharing and Standardization of Practices: Support efforts to ensure core processes are optimized and standardized across Revenue Cycle areas. Provide focus on improving areas of Contracting support with the aim to help coordinate across numerous areas which have linkages to Revenue Cycle priorities (e.g. working with Managed Care leaders). Provide support to contract compliance efforts through aggregation and sharing of Revenue Cycle data as part of overall Finance efforts to ensure contract compliance or identify areas of non-compliance. * 5% Supervision: Manage and supervise the individuals in the Revenue Cycle team. Provide direction and guidance at the appropriate level and provide feedback as part of the annual performance review process. Required Qualifications * Experience working in a large academic medical center, ideally with a focus on both hospital and physician stakeholders. * History of reporting to C-suite level stakeholders. * Advanced experience in medical center and physician group revenue cycle operations, regulation and technology integration * Advanced experience developing, implementing and successfully achieving stated goals and objectives of large-scale standardization and performance improvement initiatives. * Excellent consulting and relationship building skills. * Demonstrated leadership abilities to create and lead new teams including determining budgets, job descriptions, recruiting and setting near and long-term objectives that support the strategic direction of UC Health. * Able to work in a group setting to develop data-driven recommendations and defined measurable outcomes. * Ability to travel to geographically disparate locations across the UC system - will be expected to regularly visit each of the business offices and Medical Centers. Preferred Qualifications * Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software and database applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Education * Bachelor's degree in related area and 10 years of relevant experience/ or equivalent experience / training. * Advanced degree preferred.
