The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Community Partnerships and Investments (CPI) Engagement Senior Specialist provides subject matter expertise for the engagement strategy, processes, and framework of WWP's philanthropy portfolio. The CPI team ensures the most impactful investments and outcomes are reached in furtherance of WWP's mission. This role serves as a program liaison that ties WWP programs and services with grantees and establishes thought leadership presence at both the national and grassroots levels. The CPI Engagement Senior Specialist is often responsible for developing distinguished writing summaries and analyses for senior leadership. Together with CPI leadership and teammates, the Senior Specialist develops and maintains long-term partnerships with collaborative organizations; building-out impactful investments that align responsibly with community needs and with WWP's strategic plan, investments strategy, and the mission to honor and empower warriors.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a key WWP representative at VSO/MSO community events, fostering goodwill in the community and establishing a wider WWP/CPI footprint. This includes maintaining regular, high-touch communication and face-to-face engagement with external partners on behalf of leadership.
  • Serve as the lead liaison to WWP's communications and marketing teams to assist in storytelling and amplification of WWP's partnership strategy which comprises of external engagement and thought leadership efforts.
  • Collaborate extensively with program teammates to facilitate inbound and outbound referrals and find, fund, incubate, and shape innovative initiatives and organizations; particularly those with potential to grow and scale.
  • Work closely with WWP's resource development, mission data and insights, support, and program teammates to further organizational priorities and form impactful, responsible investments. This includes working with grantees on fulfilling branding and acknowledgment standards.
  • Inform CPI and organizational leadership, track proper investment administration, including outcome-based metrics, and prepare business cases and justifications for funding.
  • Assist leadership to ensure grantees are accountable to high return-on-investment standards in program outcomes and metrics; including tracking how an organization collaborates programmatically and acknowledges the partnership throughout the grant term.
  • Apply social impact and philanthropy strategies and tools by assisting the CPI team in finding, structuring, and shaping quality partnerships and investments. This entails leading CPI's efforts to proactively research organizations that fill gaps in WWP programming or complement WWP's direct services. Additionally, support WWP's leadership to create enduring partnerships across participating agencies that are transformative and build the field to positively impact warrior wellness.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate proposals through social and mission due diligence. Assist grantees with proposal development and provide investment recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Maintain broad, in-depth knowledge and understanding of military service organization (MSO) and veteran service organization (VSO) community needs, concerns, issues, trends, "best practices," and innovations.
  • Research and develop competitive analyses and environmental scans for senior leaders to inform decision making on investment priorities and needs within the military and veteran community.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated understanding of investment and philanthropic giving experience, and how investments are leveraged and scaled.
  • Committed to community service and philanthropy with clear comprehension of successful grant acquisitions supporting non-profit organizations.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to monitor, compile, and analyze data to guide decision-making and capitalize on investment opportunities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experienced with program and project management, e.g., ability to manage programs and projects from strategy through execution.
  • Ability to proactively identify problems, analyze information, evaluate results, and solve issues using the most effective solutions.
  • Proficient technical writing skills with an ability to connect the dots, possessing a strong critical thinking and analytical skillset.
  • Strong presentation skills. Confident communicator, with ability to present information effectively to large audiences, small groups, and individuals, facilitate group discussion, and serve as a representative of the organization.
  • Adept organizational and time management skills; flexible and adaptive to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Understands the importance of relationship management and partnering. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and build effective working relationships.
  • Exhibits emotional intelligence and the capability to respond to sensitive matters with diplomacy and empathy.
  • Ability to establish credibility, be decisive, influence others, and influence change.
  • High energy level. Self-starter; willing to take initiative.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Wounded Warrior Project and its mission, values, programs, and services, and the impact of these programs and services on wounded warriors and their families.
  • Possess and maintain a broad, in-depth knowledge and understanding of military service organization (MSO) and veteran service organization (VSO) community needs, concerns, and issues.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in either non-profit administration, grantmaking, strategy consulting, impact investing, finance, program metrics, project management, communications, or a combination thereof.

Preferences

  • Five years of military experience or working with veteran's or military organizations.
  • Five years of experience working with a non-profit organization.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in sociology, business, public administration, information technology, data science, economics, finance, accounting, or other relevant field of study.

Preferences

  • Master's degree in nonprofit management, business, accounting, economics, finance, or data analytics.
