Where You'll Work This position is based in our Washington, D.C. office. We leverage a hybrid working model working three days in the office, two days optional remote work. What You'll Do As a key member of the CHA leadership team, the Vice President of Child Health Quality will lead the strategy and expansion of quality efforts across children's hospitals to improve child health outcomes, including clinical quality improvement, and quality related to multi-sector, community-based, and population health focused quality improvement programs, and a child health patient safety organization. Leads a collaborative process to identify a vision for strategic child health quality initiatives and leads the implementation of programs and projects in support of quality improvement and measures across the industry. Ensures the achievement of short and long-range goals and implementation of basic operational strategies. The VP is accountable for leading the development, assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of all activities in these functional areas to support the strategic vision, growth initiatives and leadership principles of CHA and the child health industry. Essential Responsibilities
- Based CHA's long-term vision & strategic plan, as well as the annual operating plan, and in collaboration with the board and executive leadership, establishes the vision, direction and priorities for all functions mentioned above system wide.
- Works collaboratively with CHA executive leadership, members, leaders, and other executive and medical staff leaders to develop and execute an integrated portfolio of child health quality programs across the continuum of care.
- Serves as an internal subject matter expert and an external representative on quality and patient safety, educating employees, providers, business leaders, government officials and other key stakeholders, enhancing the value of CHA as a resource for child health quality.
- Provide consultation to support aligned data, research and learning, and engagement efforts.
- Assesses and allocates adequate resources to achieve goals within assigned areas of quality care, patient safety, and operational effectiveness.
- Drives improvement and results in all areas of responsibility, leveraging key metrics to ensure accountability, ensuring that goals and deliverables are met or exceeded.
- Provides leadership and oversight to direct reports; organizing and directing talent and resources to deliver results and achieve strategic goals, encouraging a collaborative and value-driven team culture.
- Collaborates with the Director of Patient Safety to identify major goals and objectives of the Patient Safety Organization (PSO) using federally protected patient safety work product.
- Ensure the Child Health Patient Safety Organization (PSO) adheres to federal regulations, develops strategies and initiatives in collaboration with participating hospitals and partner organizations to reduce preventable harm to children.
- Remain current on developments in the quality of health care outcomes evidence, best and promising practices, measurement, and research that directly impact the way CHA and children's hospitals operate.
- Partner in the planning of CHA's educational efforts related to quality and improvement science to enhance knowledge, culture, and use.
- Represent and position CHA's image and reputation, enhancing its visibility with key stakeholders and serving on external committees commissioned by allied organizations, government agencies and other bodies whose deliberations require pediatric input or perspective.
Experience and Skills
What You'll Bring to CHA
- Master's degree in clinical, public health or related field (i.e., health, science, epidemiology) or equivalent experience required, with advanced degrees in other related disciplines, such as an MD, RN, PhD, MPH, MSHS or MHQS preferred.
- 10 years' experience in clinical care, health care administration or health care management.
- 5 years' supervisory experience with a preference of leading managers of functional teams.
- Training in quality and safety, either through an advanced degree program or advanced experiential learning.
- Knowledge of and experience working with improvement frameworks, such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Model for Improvement, Lean, Six Sigma, and Design Thinking.
- Experience creating strategy, developing, leading, and implementing quality improvement initiatives in clinical or non-clinical health-related settings.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with a preference of experience in statistical analysis and/or research methods.
- Knowledge of contract negotiation practices/principles.
