Pharmacy Compliance Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

The Pharmacy Compliance Manager works under the direction of senior pharmacy leadership to ensure enterprise compliance in accordance with applicable state and federal laws. This position leads staff in ensuring oversight of the daily operations of the drug diversion prevention team, as well as maintains up-to-date internal procedures and compliance assessments surrounding local, state, and national rules and regulations.

25% Regulatory Compliance Activities

Under the direction of the senior pharmacy leadership, in coordination with other team members, and according to applicable state and federal law, the Pharmacy Compliance Manager:

Provides highly technical information, explanation, and interpretations of additions and changes to standards, rules, and regulations that relate to pharmacy services at the local, state, and national level. Completes gap analyses for compliance and assesses organizational impact with additions and changes to standards, rules, and regulations. Collaborates with system-wide pharmacy leadership to initiate improvements to ensure compliance with existing and evolving regulatory standards. Develops and/or updates policies and procedures when additions and changes to standards, rules, or regulations warrant. Provides timely and accurate communication, both written and verbal as appropriate, regarding interpretation of such policies, and timelines for compliance. Provides oversight of functional areas to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements through regular audits and reviews of operations. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders surrounding compliance survey activity.

25% Drug Diversion Prevention Activities

Under the direction of senior pharmacy leadership, in coordination with other team members, and according to applicable state and federal law, the Drug Diversion Prevention Officer:

Ensures compliance with local, state, national and internal compliance of drug diversion policies, protocols, rules and regulations. Provides multidisciplinary leadership of the drug diversion prevention program. Innovates future risk-mitigation strategies to maintain a comprehensive drug diversion monitoring program. Interacts with a third-party drug diversion prevention software to identify and prioritize potential drug diversion. Leads the investigation process of suspected controlled substance diversion events. Develops, maintains, and updates drug diversion prevention policies and procedures. Works collaboratively with risk management; law enforcement and legal services to gather information related to cases of Medication theft and loss. Interfaces with regulatory agencies (Professional boards, DEA, FDA) in matters of narcotic diversion.

25% Teaching/Training/Educational Activities

Creates awareness of drug diversion prevention and regulatory compliance policies and procedures. Serves as an expert for our drug diversion prevention software. Collaborates with key multidisciplinary stakeholders surrounding drug diversion and compliance. Coordinates education efforts for pharmacy personnel on regulatory compliance initiatives and updates including but not limited to education and training materials, effective face-to-face training sessions, and evaluations to assess employee understanding. Coordinates training of volunteers, pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, undergraduate and graduate students, and other hospital staff. Attends department sponsored continuing education programs. Satisfies life-safety training and other training and education requirements. Meets annual competency requirements for department. Is committed to personal growth and development. Participates and assist with conducting educational in services, formal amp; informal teaching programs (e.g. continuing education for staff).

15% Leadership/Management

Serves as the chair of the drug diversion prevention taskforce and participates on the opioid stewardship committee. Leads quality improvement initiatives, as requested by pharmacy administration. Maintains daily workflows, schedules staff according to the needs of the department, and performs timekeeping functions as necessary. Assists with annual performance appraisals for staff within the area. Demonstrates situational leadership amp; the ability to solve problems as they arise. Shares professional/technical expertise with learners and Pharmacy Technicians and orients new employees. Participates amp; assists in conducting staff meetings. Acts as a team leader for complex projects, assignments, and issues associated with the pharmacy technician function/discipline. Provides technical guidance and leadership pertaining to pharmacy technician procedures and problems. Acts as a resource for

direction, training, and guidance for less experienced staff. Monitors and reviews progress and accuracy of work. Assists in the development and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures.

5% Productivity Management

5% Projects/Other Duties and Responsibilities

Leads and facilitates projects involved in evaluating and researching new and existing products, procedures and/or workflows Participates in interview process. Provides feedback for evaluations. Coordinates scheduling. Assists with staffing adjustments.
