Overview

Responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive care to patients of all ages through the proper utilization of evaluation, planning and implementation of a treatment plan in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Serves as a role model in delivery of professional services and is a clinical resource for staff and students. Responsible for staff development and advancing the level of clinical expertise within the department.



Qualifications

Education:

    Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • Illinois Licensure as Speech and Language Pathologist or eligible for licensure required.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through American Speech-Language-Hearing Association required.
  • May require Part C Early Intervention Certifications if supporting the early intervention program.
  • Healthcare Provider or Instructor BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.

Experience:

  • Preferred 2 years work experience in Speech Therapy.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Understands the proper procedure for all speech therapy modalities, including age-specific, precautions and contra-indications.
  • Vital stim certification required within one year of hire date.


Responsibilities

  • Consistently and thoroughly evaluates patients with differing diagnoses and devises an individualized, comprehensive plan of care based on facts and best practice.
  • Recommends and performs treatment as ordered by referring physician.
  • Performs Modified Barium Swallow studies in conjunction with Radiologist and Radiology dept (FT only, per diem ST are not required to do MBS but can if eligible).
  • Educates about disease process, equipment use, and rehabilitation techniques, as appropriate.
  • Actively researches and develops new services and/or continuously suggests improvements to existing.
  • Engages in at least one yearly activity which promotes individualized professional development.
  • Assesses and provides feedback on staff clinical skills; participates in the performance appraisal process.
  • Participates in QA, research and other projects as requested.
  • Represents the hospital service line in hospital and community education programs.
  • May be required to assist in pool rescue in a support role.
  • Will treat patients in aquatic environment if situation dictates.
  • May be required to support the Early Intervention program and hold the Part C Early Intervention certification. Will provide evaluation and treatment services to support this program.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.
