Mid-Level Transportation Engineer with FDOT experience

Moffatt & Nichol is actively looking for a Mid Level Transportation Engineer to join our Chipley office. This role will support Moffatt & Nichol's FDOT District Three General Engineering Consultant (GEC) contract by providing project management services as an extension of Department staff on a variety of transportation design projects - roadway, structures, signalization, signing & pavement markings, drainage, ITS, etc. The best candidate will be familiar with a variety of surface transportation engineering type projects and a strong existing professional network with FDOT and local governments. This is not a remote work opportunity and will require in office work with some flexibility.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform design project management tasks for surface transportation projects from conceptual to final design.
  • Develop preliminary cost estimates for candidate transportation projects.
  • Develop design scope of services using FDOT templates for assigned projects.
  • Maintain and establish working relationships with regulatory agencies, local government and FDOT personnel.
  • Provide engineering design input, RFP development, and procurement assistance for traditional design-build transportation projects.
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing conceptual design plans, including but not limited to roadway and bridge projects, identifying additional right of way needs and potential permitting requirements.
  • Coordinate design activities on assigned FDOT projects and facilitate meetings between other consultant design staff, subconsultants, and client managers.
  • Participate in project management decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance.

Other duties:

Participate in emergency response activities to support the FDOT D3 GEC, to include Damage Assessments, Preliminary Cost Estimates for Repairs, Scope Development for Repair Projects, Progress Tracking, and Coordination with FDOT & FHWA for Cost Reimbursement. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation related engineering; required
  • 5+ years of experience in Transportation engineering design projects; required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Florida; required
  • Design experience on FDOT administered projects; Preferred
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire

Working conditions:

General office setting. Travel occasionally required within FDOT District Three to perform site visits, field reviews, stakeholder meetings, and public meetings/hearings.

Physical requirements:

Ability to use standard office equipment. Sits for a prolonged period of time.
