Responsibilities:
We seek to hire a research faculty member that can lead an NSF-funded project on Miocene hydroclimate with the goal of resolving the persistent hydroclimate uncertainty in a warming climate through a model-data integration approach. The role involves performing low- and high- resolution Miocene climate simulations with an Earth System Model and comparing these simulations with proxy reconstructions of terrestrial hydroclimate during the Miocene. It requires specialized computational and paleoclimate modelling skills, including configuring the Community Earth System Model to simulate the Miocene, as well as unique knowledge of both Miocene Earth history and the modern climate system. Experience configuring and running Miocene climate simulations with the Community Earth System is required, as is knowledge of various paleoclimate hydroclimate proxy systems. An eagerness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and backgrounds is essential. A Ph.D. is required by the time of employment.
Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences or related discipline;
  • Paleoclimate Modelling experience;
  • Knowledge of Miocene Earth history;
  • Ability to integrate climate models and geological data; and
  • Strong research and publication background.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education setting; and
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in climate research.
