About the Opportunity

The Department of Physiology, Pharmacology & Toxicology in the West Virginia University School of Medicine is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow. This position is responsible for a highly collaborative project to elucidate the impact of mixed combustion inhalation exposures on systemic health. Current research in the laboratories of Dr. Timothy Nurkiewicz focuses on the understanding of the microvascular basis of the cardiovascular dysfunction that follows inhalation exposures to diverse environmental stressors (xenobiotic particles and gases).

What you'll do:



  • Perform: inhalation exposures, aerosol characterization, animal surgeries, instrumentation, experimental series, data analysis
  • Oversee/direct and assist graduate researchers and research assistants in the completion of experiments.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in physiology, toxicology, biology, biomedical engineering, or a relevant biomedical field is required.
  • Two (2) years of hands-on experience in laboratory animal models and surgical techniques is required.
  • Ability to work with laboratory animals (rats and mice), including handling, breeding, dosing and surgery are required.
  • Independence and leadership traits are essential.
  • Travel to scientific meetings, oral presentations, writing skills (manuscript and grant preparation) are necessary.
