Position Summary
The University of St. Francis, a Catholic, Franciscan institution in Joliet, Illinois, invites applications for a full-time position as Instructor/Assistant or Associate Professor.

This position will be available in August 2024, pending budget approval; and can be tenure-track depending on qualifications.

The Leach College of Nursing offers CCNE-accredited undergraduate and graduate programs as well as a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. We serve traditional-aged and adult students through a variety of learning formats.

The university is located in a residential neighborhood 35 miles southwest of Chicago with satellite locations in downtown Joliet, IL, and Albuquerque, NM. The surrounding Chicagoland area offers robust park and recreation resources, major league sports, cultural arts, museums, festivals, shopping, restaurants, and two major airports.

Faculty members whose assignments are to classroom and practicum instruction are collectively responsible for curriculum design, planning, implementation, and evaluation, and for the development and implementation of specific course offerings in the curriculum/clinical.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Uphold and fulfill the mission and philosophy of the Leach College of Nursing.

Participate in and promote a culture of continuous quality improvement

Teaching: Select content, teaching methods, and learning activities appropriate to the achievement of course objectives; Direct the learning activities of students in the classroom/practicum and/or simulated setting as assigned; Evaluate the academic and practicum competencies of students using testing and other appropriate measures; Participate in the development and revision of selected course syllabi; Maintain a cooperative relationship with personnel in agencies utilized for student practicum experiences; Improve teaching effectiveness through participation in advanced study and/or continuing education offerings pertinent to nursing education and through use of peer review and student evaluation information.

Advisement/Counseling of Students: Participate in the academic advising role as established by the faculty; Available as a resource to students beyond and above the normal classroom hours and posted office hours; and Refer students with special needs to appropriate resources.

Provide service to the University, Leach College of Nursing, and the community: Serve on appropriate University/College and Governance Committees; Participate in University/College activities including faculty, students, and alumni; Cooperate in the recruitment and retention of students; Engage in scholarly endeavors and research for professional and scholarly growth.

Participate in professional programs and attend workshops and/or classes for personal enrichment; Participate in College projects in the area of expertise.
Minimum Requirements


  • DNP or Ph.D in related fields required.
  • Current RN license or eligibility for licensure in Illinois
  • Two years experience in clinical nursing practice
  • Evidence of self-development through participation in continuing education offerings, advanced study, scholarly pursuit, and/or professional and clinical activities
  • Willingness to uphold and fulfill the mission, vision, values, and traditions of the University of St. Francis
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in teaching baccalaureate and/or graduate nursing
  • Experience in using simulation in teaching
  • Expertise in the use of technology and web-based nursing education

Hours/Shift/Work Schedule
This is a full-time, nine-month contract position, August-May. We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package.

The start is August 2024.
Physical Requirements of Position
Work is performed in classroom and office settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This is sedentary work that requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
