The basics of this position:

Seeking an individual to serve as a peer mentor and outreach specialist to a minority group of Deaf and hard of hearing students enrolled in the Career and Technical Education programs offered at STLCC.

What you'll do:



  • Establish a supportive working relationship with Deaf and hard of hearing students. Lead activities and workshops to foster learning and success within CTE programs. Provide direct student support to students using their native language.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Deaf Services and Director of Access & Student Success on outreach plans, social media posts and digital communications to assure they align with the college mission.
  • Engage in digital outreach to a targeted audience of Deaf and hard of hearing students. This includes social media posts, creating signed video content, and other duties as assigned that will assist in increasing awareness of all CTE programs offered by the college and showcase how Deaf and hard of hearing professionals are thriving in those fields.

  • Provide specific outreach to middle school and high school Deaf and hard of hearing programs. Research and include topics relevant to potential students entering CTE programs.
  • Support and train Deaf Communications students to serve as volunteer notetakers in CTE programs. Familiarize students to specific technical sign language they will encounter in CTE programs.
  • Provide training to Deaf Services staff as well as engage in outreach to faculty and staff involved in CTE programs to keep them informed as to best practices in Deaf and hard of hearing in CTE professions. This may include providing workshops, creating video content, email outreach, and department in services.


Education, experience, and other requirements:

Fluent in American Sign Language

An individual who is Deaf or hard of hearing.
