Job Summary

The Juvenile inJustice Behavioral Health (JJBH) lab is seeking an administrative assistant. The incumbent will assist with complex and diverse tasks of a large and growing research lab. Duties will include:

1. Attending and participating in project meetings.

2. Coordinating community events which includes creating invitations or flyers for events and working with community partners to manage event logistics.

3. Updating the program's resource directory and providing information to users on how to access resources using standardized program guidelines.

4. Assisting with the creation of program materials such as flyers, infographics, and videos.

5. Engage in user testing of refinements made to mental health application.

This position will focus on being part of a codesign team that is developing, refining, and expanding a digital health technology application tailored for youth involved in foster care in need of emotional well-being and health supports in California. The assistant will support with administrative tasks associated with program planning and implementation activities (for up to 8 hours per week) in collaboration with UCSF staff and faculty, community stakeholders, and technology developers.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The UCSF Juvenile inJustice Behavioral Health (JJBH) Research Team includes a program of research aimed toward improving behavioral health outcomes for youth involved in the justice, child welfare, and foster care systems. Studies aim to improve youths' physical, mental, and emotional health; reduce drug and alcohol use; reduce HIV/STI risk behaviors; prevent recidivism; identify ways to improve access to and engagement in health care for these youth, thereby reducing health inequities.

Required Qualifications


  • High school graduation and two years of related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Skills to learn organization-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Basic communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, community stakeholders, and project community.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in using mental health applications.
  • Experience using computer applications such as Outlook, MS Teams, and Google Drive).
  • Must have received foster-care/AB-12 support. This includes if the applicant's guardians were kinship caregivers or family members.
