This Ethnic Studies program includes African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, Native American and Indigenous Studies (includes Pacific Islander Studies), and Comparative Ethnic Studies courses. The IIS Division includes Intercultural Studies, International/Global Studies, Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and World Languages. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE Teach a full-time assignment in Chicanx/Latinx and Comparative Ethnic Studies courses using student-centered pedagogies. Assignments may include day, evening or weekend courses. The assignments will include in-person courses, as well as online and hybrid courses that meet synchronously and asynchronously. The instructor will foster an inclusive, respectful, and active community of learners that critically explores and investigates a problem-posing approach. The instructor will teach a range of possible courses include: CHLX 10 (Introduction to Chicanx and Latinx Studies) , CHLX 11(Chicanx Culture), CHLX 12 (Chicanx and Latinx History), CHLX 13 (The Chicanx and Latinx and the Arts), CHLX 26 (La Mujer: Latina Life and Experience), ICS 35 (Chicano/a, Latino/a Literature), CETH 10 (Race, Ethnicity and Inequality), CETH 29 (Ethnic Studies, Cultural Pluralism, and American Law and Justice). The instructor will engage in emancipatory pedagogies that make connections between the classroom, our campus, and society at large. Standard duties expected of the position include: assisting in coordination of departmental course offerings/schedule; cultivating collegiality among department faculty; development, revision, and evaluation of curricula; completing Student Learning Outcome Assessment Cycles (SLOAC's), contributing to department program review; maintaining scheduled office hours; collaboratively participating in department and division meetings; pursuit of professional growth activities (particularly those focused on supporting student learning and success); and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor and member of a college community. Instructors participate in campus extracurricular student support and success activities, and serve on college-wide and district committees. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff. Master's degree in Chicano Studies OR Ethnic Studies OR the equivalent. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS We encourage individuals to apply for the position even if they do not meet all the preferred qualifications below. Master's in Chicano Studies or Master's in Ethnic Studies AND Bachelor's in Chicano Studies. Experience teaching students with diverse linguistic, academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds; with diverse physical and learning abilities; and with diverse sexual orientations; using a repertoire of pedagogical strategies that effectively fosters student learning and success. Experience teaching using different modalities (in-person, asynchronously online, hybrid). A record of grassroot community-building experiences that informs a commitment to student engaged learning (community service-learning and civic engagement) with community-serving organizations in the local Bay Area. Experience in multicultural, multiracial/multiethnic, and intercultural teaching, community engagement, and, in intercultural alliance building. Experience writing Ethnic Studies curriculum for institutional articulation. Experience working with Learning Communities, such as Puente, Latinx Empowerment at De Anza College, First-Year Experience, Umoja. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others. Strong commitment to working collaboratively as a member of a team to advance educational equity (e.g. adoption of open educational resources, retention strategies, tutoring/mentoring opportunities) and the missions of the Division and of the College to promote a civic capacity for global, cultural, social, and environmental justice. Strong oral and written communication skills. Desire to build Chicanx program in collaboration with colleagues in the division. WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: Indoor, office environment.
