Bridge Engineer
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Job Summary
Fishbeck is currently initiating a search for a talented, ambitious Bridge Engineer for employment in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This position requires self-motivation, commitment to high-quality work performance, the capability of being self-sufficient, excellent planning and communication skills, and the ability to work with other staff in a project team environment. This position will provide the ideal candidate with an opportunity to work on exciting projects and grow along with the Michigan team.
Responsibilities
- Work with experienced professional engineers on assignments related to bridge design, analysis, calculations, plan preparation, and load rating.
- Design engineer on bridge or retaining wall-related projects.
- Assist in developing budgets, schedules, and reports.
- Demonstrate theoretical/practical civil engineering and specialized software knowledge.
- Work closely with other Fishbeck technical staff from various disciplines to provide bridge design and other consulting engineering services, mainly for MDOT and local municipalities.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Occasionally exposed to light lifting, sitting, and walking. Will perform duties in the field and will be required to access and maneuver around project sites and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and from projects is required. Ability to use the equipment for communication and documentation purposes. Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.

Desired Skills/Experience
- Minimum Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
- PE license in the state of Michigan is preferred.
- 5+ years of professional work experience
- Bridge design experience with working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and LFD Bridge Design Specifications.
- Knowledge of MDOT bridge standards and guidelines is a plus.
- Knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of AASHTOWare BrR and OpenBridge Designer is a plus.
- Experience with bridge inspection and load ratings is a plus.
- Hydraulic knowledge and the use of HEC-RAS software are a plus.
- Excellent computer and verbal communication skills is a must.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
