Purpose

Responsible for assisting the Sous Chef in the planning and execution of daily food production serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 3,000+ customers.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in the preparation of all types of food items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Able to read recipes, comprehend them, handle conversions on recipes, and execute recipes. Responsible for independently preparing anywhere from five to eight recipes for a meal period for up to 150 portions per recipe in a high-volume establishment. Batch cooks recipes to the needs of business and can time the batches toreduce waste and provide the freshest product possible. Reports recipe discrepancies to the chef.

  • Assists in cleaning the whole kitchen area, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and storage area. Responsible for efficient organization and placement of prepped and stored items. Properly utilizes, stores, and labels cooked food and food items.

  • Assists on serving line, interacts with and prepares food according to customers ingredient selections.Oversees food display and garnish on all serving lines.

  • Advises supervisor of kitchen equipment repair or replacement.

Required Qualifications
  • One year of experience as a Cook or Food Prep in arestaurant, commercial, or institutional facility.

  • Experience operating cooking equipment.

  • Experience following recipes.

  • Ability to complete and maintain University Housing and Dining Food Safety Training and/or ServSafe throughout employment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Culinary degree.

  • Two or more years of experience as a Cook or Food Prep in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility.

  • High-volume cooking experience.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and work with little supervision.

Salary Range

$41,600+ depending on qualifications

  • Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished).
