Job Summary

The Part-time, Seasonal Food Service Worker (Cafeteria Worker) serves as a cafeteria and/or delicatessen/baker worker helping in the preparation, presentation and serving of specialty meats, delicacies, preserved foods, cheeses, salads, breads and sweets to patrons. The incumbent assists in weighing, pricing and wrapping selected foods on plates, trays and in bags, prepares food displays in counter cases and other display units, greets customers as they arrive at service counter, takes special orders, and answers basic customer questions about specialty foods.

Primary Duties:

  • Set up food on self-serving lines and portion food for individual servings in accordance with instructions.

  • Refill cold bars, salad bars, pastry cabinets, condiments, juice dispensers, and set up dining rooms.

  • Replace glassware, dishes and silverware and refill condiment containers. Wipe and wash tables and countertops.

  • Clean work area, utensils, and equipment; remove garbage; mop floors, walls, windows, and tables.

  • Remove dirty dishes, glasses, and silverware from serving counters. Mix washing solutions and operate electric dish washing machine and/or wash dishes, glassware, pots and pans and kitchen utensils by hand.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain in a sanitary condition equipment and work areas, utensils and tables.

  • Perform ware-washing, and keep pot and pan areas in order prior to, during and after meals. Follow correct techniques, cleaning schedules and tasks.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) preferred.

  • One-year food service related experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong customer service skills required.

  • Neat, well-groomed appearance required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and respond to customers and employees. The employee frequently is required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
