Purpose

To perform custodial maintenance work at University Housing and Dining's residence locations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily assigned work in public, community, private, and/or connecting bathrooms. Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, and showers. Sweep and mop floors including disinfecting and polishing faucets and shower controls. High dusting of stalls and exhaust fan grills. Replenish tissue, soap, and bags as needed. Replace shower curtains when needed. Mold inspections on the ceiling and shower stall. Report and clean graffiti.

  • Perform floor maintenance on hard surfaces and carpets as assigned. Clean and disinfect floor surfaces. Strip and wax VCT floors in public areas and student rooms. Buff VCT floors as scheduled. Spot clean carpets when needed and perform carpet extraction as assigned. Vacuum carpets and clean daily.

  • Clean hallways, lounges, stairwells and landings, trash collection areas, computer labs, exercise rooms, lobbies, offices, kitchens, meeting rooms, laundry rooms, elevators, landings, and outside public areas daily. Dust and clean all walls, furniture, and appliances as needed. Move and rearrange furniture daily to be set up as scheduled. Take trash and recycle outside to compactors.

  • Inspect the building for maintenance needs and submit written work requests. Inspect all furniture for cleanliness, torn fabric, or damaged broken components. Remove or replace any damaged furniture. Participate in Fire and Life Safety inspections twice a year in student rooms. Maintain storage area, closets, cleaning equipment, and supplies. Keep the closet organized and free of safety concerns.

  • Provide set-ups for check-in and banquets and rearrange furniture for conferences to meet the needs of the conference as required. Prepare and clean meeting rooms. Service, set-up, and clean rooms used by the conference. Prepare rooms for fall and summer occupancy.

  • Promote the professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training.

  • Follow and know written policies and procedures from The University of Texas at Austin and University Housing and Dining.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Six months of commercial cleaning experience.

  • Six months of experience working with commercial cleaning equipment such as commercial dish machines, carpet care, or floor care equipment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High school graduation or GED.

  • More than six months of commercial cleaning experience

  • More than six months of experience with vacuum cleaners, buffers, and floor machines.

  • Experience in building services at the University of Texas.

  • Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with verbal work related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers.

Salary Range

$37,440 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift
  • Monday - Friday, 7:30AM - 4:00PM. Hours and days may vary depending on University Housing and Dining needs

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
