Our teams focus on projects including small and fast energy retrofits, data centers, large scale new construction, and strategic decarbonization efforts for campuses.

Our B.L.U.E.(Build, Learn, Understand, Enrich)Summer Internship Program is purposefully designed to inspire your imagination and help you guide your career with purpose. You'll be an integral part of McKinstry with hands-on experience, mentorship and a healthy dose of fun. Our program delivers depth and real experience so that you can truly evaluate potential career paths within the work we do.

What we lookfor in our Structural Engineer Interns:



  • Must be pursuing a masters degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering with a Structural focus or a related field.
  • Availability in Summer 2024 (May/June start until August/September depending on school); part-time availability after Summer preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, well organized, and possess excellent follow-up skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently.
  • Ability or aptitude to read and interpret construction plans, specs, contracts, proposals, estimates and other regularly encountered items.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio required; working knowledge of SharePoint and MS Project preferred.
  • CAD experience through AutoCAD MEP or Revit preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.


What are our Structural Engineer Interns responsible for:



  • Performing construction administration activities as needed for various structural projects.
  • Supporting ongoing mechanical and electrical projects from a structural perspective.
  • Performing sizing, layout, and coordination of structural and seismic support of equipment, ductwork, and piping for new and relocated scope.
  • Researching codes for inspection requirements.
  • Assisting with project submittals related to seismic and structural design.
  • Generating accurate structural calculations
  • Exploring building information modeling concepts and practices when using BIM as a design platform
  • Utilizing both manual and packaged calculations software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The hourly rate for this role is $27/hr.
