Transplant Financial Coordinator

Description In this role you will coordinate administrative services and operations for transplant services. This is a high volume position which requires the incumbent to work independently and expeditiously. You will have direct communication with patients and their families. You will also communicate with multiple departments ( eg. Transfer center, Patient placement, admissions , Contracting , physicians, Transplant On-Call team , Nurse Managers, outside facilities, Health plans, medical groups and the Director of Transplant Administration). This position requires a high degree of knowledge in the Transplant process in order to independently analyze, review and resolve complex cases.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Handling all in-coming calls, emails, and transfer request for inpatient evaluation admissions and in-house evaluations, Provide transplant knowledge to answer any question related to Liver, Heart, Lung, Kidney, and Small Bowel Transplants, Multi-visceral, Islet Cell Pancreas Transplants and Allogeneic Islet Cell Transplants, Verification, authorization, preadmission, and clearance for transplant evaluations and transplant surgeries, Review of transplant clearance status for organ offers afterhours when requested by On-call Transplant team or hospital admission staff, Attend weekly and monthly required meetings, Maintain CareConnect Transplant Work queue's, Maintain Optum Website including: initiation of Optum transplant case rates and obtaining notification forms, and Perform all other tasks and administrative duties as assigned
You will function as a Transplant Financial Coordinator working in-office Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm as well as being part of the Transplant On-call team when scheduled, which includes working after hours remotely Monday through Friday 4pm - 7am , holidays and rotating weekends.
Salary Range: $77,299.40-$178,552.20/annually

Qualifications Required:
* Financial Counseling in the field of Transplantation with experience in on-call activities
* Working knowledge of third party payer verification terminology
* Working knowledge in the functional operations of third party payors and utilization review agencies to expeditiously coordinate follow-up
* Working knowledge of State and Federal programs to ensure reimbursement from Medicare, Medi-Cal, CCS programs, out-of-state Medicaid, or other sponsoring agencies
* Working knowledge of health plans with special processing requirements for emergency patients and ability to effectively communicate these requirements to physicians and administrative personnel under time urgent conditions
* Ability to attend to many details within a short span of time
* Skill in detecting erroneous data input that would otherwise disable census system output mechanisms
* Working knowledge of HMO's and PPO's, in order to understand, explain and calculate Per Diem rates, contractual allowances and percentage discounts
* Skill in computing ratios, rates and percentages in order to calculate estimated prorated balances and patient liability
* Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices or procedures in order to define the problem/objective; identify relevant concerns/factors; identify patterns, tendencies or relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications
Preferred:
* Transplant Financial Coordinators Association - Certified Transplant Financial Coordinator Certification
* Knowledge of transplant specific organ acquisition cost centers
* Ability to scrutinize credit reports and evaluate personal financial information to detect any problems, discrepancies or questionable areas and set up an appropriate financial arrangement when necessary
* Knowledge of the availability of specific accommodations for patients on various nursing units to initiate proper room and care charges
* Knowledge of physician team and specialty to accurately validate medical services rendered to patients
* Knowledge of unit specialties with specific regards to proper patient and team assignment
* Ability to monitor bed availability, predict, and communicate possible problems to appropriate departments
* Working knowledge of the department functions of an acute care hospital and their organizational interrelationships
