An Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing an organization's efforts to maintain and improve environmental, health, and safety standards.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

1. Compliance Assurance: Ensure that the organization complies with all relevant environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.

2. Policy Development: Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures that align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

3. Risk Assessment: Identify potential hazards and assess risks in the workplace, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.

4. Training and Education: Provide EHS training and education to employees, contractors, and visitors to ensure awareness and understanding of safety procedures and protocols.

5. Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

6. Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid, and disaster response.

7. Environmental Management: Manage environmental programs, including waste disposal, pollution control, and sustainability initiatives.

8. Safety Inspections: Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and address potential safety and environmental issues.

9. Recordkeeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, and compliance activities. Prepare and submit regulatory reports as required.

10. Stakeholder Communication: Communicate EHS information and updates to employees, management, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.

11. Budget Management: Manage the EHS budget, including allocating resources for training, equipment, and compliance initiatives.

12. Continuous Improvement: Continuously monitor and evaluate EHS programs and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency.

Qualifications:

1. Education: A bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field. Some positions may require a master's degree.

2. Certifications: Depending on the industry and location, certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Environmental Manager (CEM) may be required or preferred.

3. Experience: Typically, several years of relevant experience in EHS management or a related field is required, with a proven track record of successfully managing EHS programs.

4. Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations and the ability to stay up-to-date with changes in these regulations.

5. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as EHS managers need to convey complex information clearly to various stakeholders.

6. Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to identify and address EHS issues effectively.

7. Leadership: Leadership and interpersonal skills to lead and motivate teams and influence positive EHS behaviors throughout the organization.

8. Computer Skills: Proficiency in using EHS management software and tools for data analysis and reporting.

9. Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure compliance and safety standards are met.

10. Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

11. Ethical Conduct: Commitment to ethical and responsible EHS practices.

12. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and departments within the organization.
