POSITION SUMMARY:

The Child Witness to Violence Project (CWVP) at Boston Medical Center is seeking an Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinical Lead. The CWVP is nationally recognized for its innovative and comprehensive services for young children and families affected by violence. The Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinical Lead provides clinical leadership, training and consultation to clinical service staff and interns. This position will serve as a liaison for clinical staff and interns to support program service delivery. The Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinical Lead will conduct clinical assessments, make psychosocial diagnoses as appropriate and provide evidence-based, diversity-informed psychotherapeutic treatment for children and their caregivers impacted by violence and other kinds of trauma exposure. The Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinical Lead will be responsible for providing assessment and intervention using a racial justice and health equity lens. The position consults with, collaborates, and communicates with a wide range of disciplines within BMC and the community in the overall care of the patient. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the clinician will engage in training and teaching activities at the hospital as well as interface with a wide variety of community agencies. This position is hybrid: will provide in-person therapy as well as remote telehealth as clinically appropriate. This work schedule is subject to change.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Clinical Services


  • Provides clinical leadership and consultation to clinical service staff and interns.
  • Provides supervision to clinical interns.
  • Provides clinical supervisory coverage for unlicensed/license eligible staff as needed.
  • Collaborates with program leadership to implement clinical services policies and protocols.
  • Serves as a resource and liaison to clinical staff and interns to support clinical service delivery and adherence to program mission, policies and procedures.
  • Provides comprehensive clinical assessment and evaluation of young children and their families referred to CWVP in coordination with patient, family and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Develops treatment plans based on patient needs/goals.
  • Provides direct clinical assessment and psychotherapeutic treatment to a regular case load of weekly cases.
  • Provides individual, dyadic and group psychotherapy to children and caregiver support to reduce the impact of trauma exposure and achieve improved functioning and emotional state.
  • Consults and collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure that the overall health needs of patients are addressed.
  • Provides risk assessment and intervention as necessary.
  • When indicated, refers to and coordinates with appropriate emergency services.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to a culturally diverse patient population.
  • Engages in training related to evidence-based interventions and implements treatments consistent with training.
  • Documents each patient encounter in the medical record and complies with departmental, regulatory and professional requirements for documentation recording and data collection, as well as any additional documentation required for grant-management purposes.
  • Participates in weekly staff meetings, clinical meetings and weekly supervision sessions.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality according to hospital policy.

Training and Outreach


  • Provides onboarding training to clinical staff and interns.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Manager to coordinate and implement clinical intern/new staff training curriculum
  • Provides outreach, collaboration and training with relevant community and medical providers.
  • Provides trauma-related trainings and represents CWVP at state and national conferences and proceedings
  • Oversee non-clinical training support personnel and interns.
  • Assist with the development of the program newsletter.

  • Completes annual mandatory hospital and department education activities.
  • Maintains relevant licensures and certifications.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Requires Master's Degree from an accredited school of Social Work or school of Mental Health Counseling or related field as determined by the Board of Registration of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Requires a current Massachusetts Independent License, such as Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).

EXPERIENCE:


  • At least 3 years clinical counseling experience with children and families impacted by trauma exposure.
  • Experience developing and delivering trainings about child trauma, evidence-based and evidence-informed treatment modalities.
  • Experience delivering clinical consultation and supervision a plus.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma on young children and families and experience working with families impacted by trauma exposure.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills to deliver trainings, consultation and outreach to multidisciplinary audiences, agencies and organizations.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems in a systematic, logical, and timely manner.
  • Ability to be self-directed, prioritize essential tasks and balance numerous responsibilities efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to think flexibly, collect, interpret and synthesize clinical diagnostic information to inform/guide treatment.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of racial and ethnic populations.
  • An organized work style, good follow through skills and ability to keep organized written documentation.
  • Experience in health or hospital settings desirable.
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual competency appropriate to the patient population served is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively, comfortably, and sensitively with ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse individuals and with people from historically marginalized and underserved communities.
  • Knowledge of and competence in advocating with community resources and agencies that serve children and families affected by violence or trauma exposure.
  • Experience, comfort and effectiveness independently implementing crisis intervention services.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with patients and families and to interact effectively with various healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to accept and provide feedback effectively.
  • Computer literacy with ability to use standard word processing, spreadsheet programs, and e-mail (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and web browsers.
