Position: CT Technologist

Department: Radiology

Schedule: 32 Hours, Fri 3p-7a Sat and Mon 11p-7a (Evening, Overnights)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general supervision of the CT Scan Supervisor, the CT Technologist provides CT skills and initiatives to the department mission through interactions with staff, and others as necessary. Primary duties are to work as a Technologist on either East Newton or Harrison Avenue campus while also implementing policy and procedures as determined necessary through CT Scan Supervisor and Radiology Administrative Director.



  • Operates a CT (computed tomography) scanner to perform technologist duties as required and necessary for proper departmental work flow.

  • Performs appropriate studies as determined through policy and procedure. Follows requisition in terms of providing proper study for patients. Ensures that exams requested match patient condition and/or history and calls or asks the appropriate persons for more information as necessary to perform the proper study.

  • Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times. Accommodates patient needs and staffing needs through flexibility in scheduling and timeliness of studies.

  • Sets up equipment as necessary and uses proper imaging techniques. Adjusts imaging factors when necessary to improve study or quality factors. Works through radiologist's requirements to provide appropriate images and provides additional views and variations of techniques as requested.

  • Completes procedures in timely fashion while providing quality images for Radiology and outside departments. Completes work by the end of the shift or communicates with coworkers about work needing completion.

  • Participate in intravenous (IV) training, and passes all competencies required to start and administer IV contrast material under the general observation of a qualified physician, as per department policy and procedure.

  • Maintains equipment through interaction with both management and department service vendors to maximize equipment up time, patient care, and minimize dollar impact to the hospital.

  • Performs patient focused customer service and ensures the following standards are met appropriately and achieved. Communicates patient complaints professionally to the appropriate supervisor. Keeps discussions around patients to a minimum and ensures that patients are not subjected to departmental conversations and/or any inappropriate behavior. Handles telephone calls and requests for services both professionally and appropriately.

  • Provides service and care to patients of all ages.

  • Understands the requirements of the department by providing services to patients not only in performing of studies but also in providing any/all information on reports as necessary and appropriate.

  • Monitors patient's conditions and if it is determined assistance may be required, the employee takes action to facilitate the best course of care to include: nurse involvement, further monitoring and/or other patient focused solutions.

  • Ensures that all required documentation is properly completed for billing purposes to include (but not necessarily limited to) electronic orders and paperwork related to all procedures performed. Understands and adheres to managed care guidelines to ensure proper recording for billing of Radiology procedures.

  • Works hours as regularly scheduled or according to the operational needs of the radiology department. Satisfies operational requirements to include covering the department as determined necessary through the Supervisor, Operations Manager, or Radiology Director.

  • Follows all departmental established and appropriate policies and procedures as required.

  • Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the department and hospital's mission.

  • Treats patients and fellow staff with dignity and respect and reports any/all problems to the supervisor.

  • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures. Follows all radiation safety procedures to ensure patients are not compromised in relation to radiation safety. Demonstrates understanding of all radiation safety issues through annual compliance with radiation safety and/or seminars.




JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:


  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:



  • Work requires knowledge of principles and procedures of diagnostic radiology and CT and the operation and maintenance of Radiologic equipment generally acquired through the completion of two years post-high school training in an approved school of radiologic technology.

  • Other in-house and on-the-job training also required.

  • MRST, AART required. CT license preferred.

  • State license required and all applicable radiology education requirements.




EXPERIENCE:


  • Minimum 1-2 years experience in diagnostic radiology, experience in CT preferred.



KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:



  • Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques and procedures and cross sectional anatomy
  • Working knowledge of Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Creativity and latitude, and the ability to adapt to changing pace within the department are necessary qualities.
  • Must present a positive, team oriented attitude and a professional appearance.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting heavy objects and patients, and adhere to safety standards set forth by the Radiology Department, BMC and other regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients and all/any apprehensions, to instruct students and to interact with other staff technologists.
  • Work requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients and all/any apprehensions, to instruct students and to provide technical supervision to staff technologists.
