    Qualifications: Must hold an Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsements. Must be able to effectively collaborate with students, parents and other professionals.

    Reports to: Building Principal


    Overview: The teacher is the person directly responsible for the students assigned on his/her classlist. The teacher is the team leader for the student and is responsible for determining each child's needs and coordinating the necessary special education, supportive services and regular education services to meet each child's needs. The teacher is directly responsible to his/her sector or program department supervisor.

    Performance Responsibilities:

    1. Assess the needs of each child on her class list. When appropriate, utilize the problem solving process including data collection and progress monitoring.

    2. Be an active participant in the team's development of an IEP stating each child's present level of functioning, goals to meet each child's needs, and evaluation procedures and schedules for determining when goals are met.

    3. Manage the students within the classroom to assure a conducive learning environment which is safe for all students.

    4. Develop and implement daily lesson plans that demonstrate how the IEP's are being fulfilled on a daily basis.

    5. Organize the classroom to be attractive and motivational for student's learning.

    6. Coordinate integration with the regular education program when the students can appropriately learn and achieve in the regular education classes.

    7. Plan for and conduct parent conferences as needed for each student (a minimum of two per year).

    8. Follow all policies and procedures as stated in the Employee Handbook.

    9. Complete all required records, especially keeping each student's IEP updated on a continual basis.

    10. Function as the team leader for each child to assure that each child's needs are appropriately met. Participate in team meetings and annual review/IEP conferences.

    11. Utilize/perform Non-violent Crisis Prevention Intervention.

    12. Continue professional development through attending conferences, in-services, workshops, courses, reading materials and/or available offerings.

    13. Push or left up to 20 pounds such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts.

    14. Able to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to focus.

    15. Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff.
