Job Summary

We're seeking qualified Group Fitness Instructors to perform meaningful work, connecting our communities through programming, and exceptional learning experiences. As a Group Fitness Instructor, you will be responsible for developing and growing an enthusiastic and welcoming group environment in a variety of land-based and/or aquatic-based classes. Successful candidates must be trained in health and fitness, teaching techniques, verbal and nonverbal cueing, and provide effective modifications for all levels of participants.

Recreation and Community Centers:

  • Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center, Sterling
  • Dulles South Recreation and Community Center, South Riding
  • Round Hill Indoor Aquatics Center, Round Hill

Community Centers:
  • Bluemont Community Center, Bluemont.
  • Sterling Community Center, Sterling.
  • Douglass Community Center, Leesburg.
  • Lucketts Community Center, Leesburg.
  • Loudoun Valley Community Center, Purcellville.
  • Lovettsville Community Center, Lovettsville.
  • Philomont Community Center, Philomont.
  • Ashburn Community Center, Ashburn

Senior Centers:
  • Carver Senior Center, Purcellville.
  • Dulles South Senior Center, South Riding.
  • Senior Center at Cascades, Cascades.
  • The Senior Center of Leesburg, Leesburg


Locations may include parks throughout Loudoun County. Please select location preferences in the supplemental questions of the application.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops, plans, and leads effective and safe land-based and/or aquatic-based group exercise classes.
  • Motivates class participants and upholds fitness policies and procedures while teaching classes.
  • Prepares for class in a timely manner with set-up and breakdown of equipment and materials.
  • Instructs and monitors participants during class by showing proper form, use of equipment, and modifications based on participant skills and abilities.
  • Completes all administrative responsibilities associated with group fitness classes and events.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for participants, staff, and other instructors before, during, and after class.
  • Actively promote and seek new participants for all classes and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Stays up to date with industry standards and fitness trends.
  • Communicates effectively with staff and all patrons.
  • Participate in monthly meetings, events, and in-services.
  • May perform additional duties related to their position.

Schedules are flexible and can include morning, evening, and weekend hours. Hours vary based on client, center, and some holiday needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent and a nationally recognized group fitness certification.
  • Must have CPR/AED.
  • Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six (6) months of experience teaching group fitness classes.
  • Certification recognized by the NCCA-National Commission for Certifying Agencies (ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE) or Zumba, Pilates, Cycling, and RYT200.
  • Bilingual.
  • First Aid certification

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Must undergo criminal background check.
  • Must maintain group fitness certifications.
  • Must maintain a CPR/AED certification.
