Position Summary:

The Aquatic Lifeguard Coordinator will be responsible for managing lifeguard staff. They will also assist with safety and operations of aquatic venues and programs. Responsibilities include programming and running lifeguard certification classes, managing lifeguard scheduling and pool coverage and other tasks as necessary to maintain safe pool environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Provide direct oversight, supervision, and training of the lifeguard staff.
  • May be required to perform hands-on Lifeguard and Aquatic Lead duties, as needed.
  • Schedule Lifeguard and Aquatic Lead staff and manage shift coverage for day-to-day operations.
  • Assist Aquatic Manager with LG3, Lead, and Lifeguard payroll.
  • Conduct weekly LG3/Lead Guard meetings.
  • Work closely with the Aquatic Program Specialist and Aquatic Fitness Coordinator to coordinate staffing needs with programming.
  • Plan and conduct lifeguard in-services and preparatory trainings.
  • Oversee and conduct lifeguard audits and follow-up trainings as needed. Maintain audit lists.
  • Responsible for lifeguard communications regarding scheduling, trainings, callouts, shift coverage, and in-services.
  • Handle personnel issues maintain ongoing documentation and report all occurrences to the Aquatics Manager.
  • Assist Aquatic Manager with Lifeguard hiring, interviews, swim tests, and new hire orientations. Ensure new hires meet all H.R. and ARC Lifeguard requirements.
  • Responsible for conducting 90-day and annual review of Lifeguards and Leads.
  • Administrative duties include lifeguard management documentation files, incident/accident reporting, in-service agendas and attendance sheets, ARC class enrollments, first-aid inventory, lifeguard certification monitoring and filing, daily cleaning checklists, and uniform inventory records and ordering.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning. Provide first-aid, rescue breathing, and CPR when needed.
  • Respond to Code radio calls whenever possible to provide back-up support to Lead Guards and ensure incidents are properly reported in a timely manner.
  • Inspect, assist, and supervise staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
  • Maintain a safe working environment. Perform regular inspections of aquatics areas.
  • Assist the Aquatics Manager in reviewing and maintaining a written Emergency Action Plan for the Aquatics department, and for Lifeguard emergency responses within all Kroc Departments.
  • Oversee scheduling and instruction of ARC lifeguarding, CPR/First Aid/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Babysitter courses. Submit necessary information to ARC for invoicing and certifications.
  • Compile and monitor data pertaining to pool bather loads, and assess lifeguard staffing and zone coverage, and making adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain aquatic first-aid inventory and ensure the availability of adequate supplies.
  • Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.
  • Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients and members are given prompt and courteous service.


General Qualifications and Proficiencies:



  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have prior to start of employment unless otherwise noted and must maintain current certifications in the following:



    • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
    • American Red Cross Water Park Lifeguard certification
    • American Red Cross LG Management certification within nine months of hire
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within nine months of hire
    • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED/Oxygen Administration Certification
    • American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens within 90 days of hire


  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience and 2+ years of related experience.
  • Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Must be able to work varied and flexible shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members and customers. Ability to be self-motivated, work independently and in a team environment. Must also have effective communication skills and engage positively with staff and the public.
  • Two years of experience as a lifeguard, preferred.
  • Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as TSA.
  • Commitment to and understanding of PTM policy and Kroc Center Core Values.
  • CPO certification highly desirable.


Physical Requirements:



  • Must maintain minimum fitness level to be able to accomplish the following:



    • 300-yard swim continuously without breaks
    • Tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands


  • Position requires proficient swimming ability and endurance. Must perform the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques. This position requires the ability to properly extract victims from the pool(s) to the deck, and ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs., sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, jog, pull, push, balance, reach and ability to use fingers and hands. Position will require operating equipment such as computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
  • Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of all aquatics areas.
