Position Overview

Join us this summer (June - August) for a highly interactive and engaging internship experience where you get to work alongside various departments to develop your skills and learn more about the health insurance and healthcare industry.

Interns will also participate in workshops, activities and other events organized by MetroPlusHealth

*Note: This is a paid internship program. Prospective interns must be current students attending an accredited College or University and must be 18 years or older to be considered.

Job Description
  • The intern will help the UM department obtain and organize data and then analyze the data. One main emphasis will be to obtain data on patients with peripheral vascular disease and the use of topical oxygen therapy. Much of the data will be obtained form our SQL databases and then converted to a SAS database for analysis. The analysis will consist of survival analysis (time to death and time to amputation) as well as mixed models. Much of the modeling will be done with propensity score matching
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters or PhD student in statistics or biostatistics

Licensure and/or Certification Required

  • SAS certification preferred

Professional Competencies

  • The intern will have access to sensitive patient information; the intern is expected to keep all data and analysis safe and to share information only to authorized co-workers
  • The intern will not interact directly with members; the project will focus on improving care and minimizing waste
  • The programming will be largely in SAS, with some SQL coding. The intern should understand the statistical principles underlying survival analysis and mixed modeling
  • The intern is expected to present the results of the analysis internally at MetroPlus and possibly externally at specialty meetings. With help, the intern is expected to write the results of the analysis as an academic research paper.
