As a Behavioral Health Care Advocate, you'll support multiple regional teams by completing prior authorizations and concurrent reviews for mental health and substance use disorder treatments, including inpatient, IOP, partial, and residential levels of care, and Kansas waiver programs. Requests are received through a mix of digital faxes, phone queues, and chat queues. You'll have a direct impact on the lives of our members as you recommend and manage the appropriate level of care throughout the entire treatment plan.

This position requires an active, unrestricted clinical license to practice independently without supervision in the state of Kansas.

This Monday - Friday position offers the flexibility to work an 8-hour day between 8 AM - 6PM CST.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Manage facility-based admissions for mental health and substance abuse through the continuum of care
  • Effectively collaborate with treating providers and facilities to ensure consumers are receiving treatment in line with best practice and level of care guidelines
  • Effectively communicate with consumers about their benefit coverage and provide appropriate resources and referrals
  • Make decisions about appropriate levels of care based on medical necessity guidelines

Required Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage or Family Counseling; Licensed Ph.D., or Registered Nurse with 2+ years of experience in behavioral health
  • Active, unrestricted clinical license to practice independently without supervision in the state of Kansas
  • 2+ years of behavioral health experience
  • Facility-based mental health / substance abuse experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Dedicated home office space and access to install secure high-speed internet in home (Cable Broadband, DSL, or Fiber)



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Inpatient experience
  • Experience working in a managed care setting
  • Experience working in an environment that required coordination of benefits and utilization of multiple groups and resources for patients
  • Experience using ICUE
  • Experience using Linx
  • Proven solid time management skills
  • Proven ability to work independently, effectively, and collaboratively within in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Proven solid verbal and written communication skills

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington residents is $58,300 to $114,300 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
