Grind Operator - 2nd Shift Please Note this position is for 2nd Shift: Monday-Friday 3:30pm-11:55 pm Occupational Summary: The primary function of an Operator Grind I is to perform machine operations on components to specified dimensions according to required quality standards by performing the following duties: Essential Functions: Operate up to the required number of production grinding machines within the assigned area; to produce parts to very close dimensional tolerances and finish specifications
Refer to drawings and Shop Orders for specified dimensions, tolerances and number of parts to be run. Follow established procedures and verbal instructions to operate machines. May begin to learn set ups.
Load part(s) into parts feeder or loading chute; cycle machine or engage automatic feed. Verify dimensions of ground workpiece(s) for conformance to specification using preset gauges; make adjustments to correct variances.
Visually or through the use of a microscope, inspect condition of surface finish on part(s).
May replace worn grinding wheels using wrenches and activate preset dressing devices to dress wheels to achieve required finish.
Work subject to process inspection. Use care to recognize defective wheels, machine malfunctions, and dimensional deviations.
Reads, references and interprets written and verbal instructions; always following established standard procedures and certified processes.
Assist with training of operators and set-up personnel, as required.
Maintains established production levels and quality standards.
Recognize and report any irregularities as to defective parts, finishes, work techniques and/or quality of workmanship.
Maintain all necessary documentation in a clear and accurate manner, including paperwork and job reporting transactions as required.
Maintains necessary records; work is subject to audited inspections.
Handle parts according to established procedures.
Follow all prescribed safety rules and regulations.
Keeps work area clean and orderly including promptly reporting to Team Lead any oil/coolant leaks and/or spills
Performs related duties as assigned by leadership Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Experience: Prior machine operation preferred
Job Skills: Mechanical aptitude
Abilities: Ability to read and understand complex written and verbal instructions in English Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction) and maintain an understanding of the decimal system Able to be flexible and respond to the changing needs of the organization Good manual and concentrated visual attention dexterity skills Pay Scale: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour DOE Additional .75 per hour - 2nd shift incentive Other Requirements: Ability to lift 40 lbs. Note: Physical job requirements may include standing, use of hands to assemble and or carry out job functions as well as sitting, lifting, carrying, bending and stooping during the course of the job.
