About the Department
The School of Nursing ( SON), located in downtown Atlanta, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position to begin in August 2024. Georgia State University is nationally ranked for excellence in teaching, innovation, and diversity. The SON reflects this excellence and prides itself on offering degree programs at all levels from associates to Ph.D. Our vibrant interdisciplinary environment provides collaborative opportunities with researchers in the health professions, public health, law, health policy, and biomedical sciences as well as surrounding organizations (e.g. CDC, Emory University Healthcare Network, Grady Health System, Morehouse School of Medicine). Additionally, there are internal research collaboration opportunities at Georgia State University, notably with the Gerontology Institute, Center for Research on Atypical Development and Learning, the Mark Chaffin Center for Healthy Development, and the Center for Health Services Research. Faculty rank will be determined based on candidates' prior research and teaching experience.
Position Description
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the School of Nursing, the Assistant Dean provides leadership in the development and implementation of programs related to the school's research and scholarship efforts. Specific responsibilities of the Assistant Dean for Research and Scholarship include the following:
- Provides leadership and long-term planning for the school's research and scholarship programs, scholarship projects, including mentoring of faculty and students under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Nursing.
- Contributes to the strategic planning process of the school, with special attention given to the research mission of the university, college and school.
- Provides assistance to faculty and students in the acquisition and management of research and scholarship funds, indirect funds, and faculty start-up requests.
- Reviews faculty grant proposals for presentation quality and budget accuracy in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Research of the college.
- Informs faculty of professional development opportunities related to research and scholarship productivity.
- Notifies faculty of intramural and extramural grant opportunities on at least a monthly basis.
- Assists faculty with grant development.
- Leads or provides support in the development of collaborative research enterprises within and between the school, college and university, and other academic institutions locally, nationally, and internationally.
- Represents the school on selected college and university committees related to but not limited to research and scholarship.
- Serves as liaison between the school and college for Research and Scholarship Development.
- Provides the Associate Dean of the School of Nursing with quarterly reports of grants originating and grant submissions, awards, and external funding levels from faculty and students.
- Maintains an ongoing data management system of grants submitted and received by faculty and students at the school.
- Provides assistance to the Associate Dean of the School of Nursing on projects, programs, reports and other tasks where the expertise and/or viewpoints of the Assistant Dean can contribute to their timely completion.

Required Experience


  1. Experienced Researcher: Candidates should have a proven track record as an experienced researcher with extramural funding records.

  2. Academic Experience: A minimum of seven years of academic experience is required, showcasing a substantial background in academia.


Required Education
A Ph.D. or equivalent research doctoral degree in nursing or relevant areas.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations, etc
Georgia RN license or licensure eligible.
Pre-Employment Requirements
