Co-Op Research Associate, Hematology Research

Keros Therapeutics
United States, Massachusetts, Lexington
1050 Waltham Street (Show on map)
March 10, 2024

Keros Therapeutics is a public, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of novel treatments for patients suffering from hematological and musculoskeletal disorders with high unmet medical need. We are a leader in understanding the role of the transforming growth factor-beta, or TGF-, family of proteins, which are master regulators of red blood cell and platelet production as well as of the growth, repair and maintenance of muscle and bone. We have leveraged this understanding and developed a discovery approach to generate large and small molecules to address diseases of these tissues. Targeting TGF- signaling pathways has been clinically proven to elicit robust changes in blood cells, muscle, and bone, which we believe provides a precedent and strong rationale for our strategy.

Keros Therapeutics is seeking a passionate, eager individual to join our preclinical research group to contribute to increasing our understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of action of our molecules, with a focus on hematopoiesis. You will play an important role in the development of cellular assays to expand our understanding of hematopoietic differentiation and the effect of our drug candidates on the process. In doing so, you will gain valuable industry experience and receive extensive training in both in intro and ex vivo research. In addition, a successful candidate will be inquisitive about the science and capable of problem-solving by consulting literature/colleagues and designing experiments to test resulting hypotheses.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform in vitro and ex vivo research bench work
  • RNA isolation and expression analysis by qRT-PCR
  • Perform in vitro assays to confirm the expression and activity of candidate therapeutic proteins (Western Blot, ELISA)
  • Perform antibody staining and flow cytometic analysis of hematopoietic cells
  • Maintain clear, accurate records of lab work and summarize results as needed in study reports
  • Practice attention to detail and provide updates at team meetings

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Students majoring in animal science, biology, biochemistry, or related majors
  • Has some mammalian cell culture experience
  • Interest in a future career in biomedical research and be open to performing ex vivo bench work
  • Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team as well as independently with supervision
  • Interest in blood/bone biology preferred but not required
  • Strong communication and organization skills, good working knowledge of MS office, data plotting, and presentation
  • Displays a high degree of maturity, honesty, trust, and integrity. A curious individual considers a scientific problem/question an opportunity for innovation and intellectual growth
  • Previous co-op or intern experience is preferred
