Special Events Associate (Part-Time)
Department: Group Sales

Reports to: Group Experience Manager
Pay: $15
Job Summary
The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical is looking for individuals to join their Events team! Our Special Events Associate will work with the Group Experience and Events Team to ensure our birthday parties and public events run smoothly, details are well communicated, and guests receive outstanding service!
Individuals should be friendly, articulate and possess a desire to create a welcoming environment for our clients. Strong customer service skills, organization skills, the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems on the fly are essential. Candidates must be reliable and timely in attendance and have a flexible schedule. The ability to work in a fast- paced environment and independent without constant supervision is required.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist the Event Team in:


  • Executing events like Easter, HallZooween, Happy Zoo Year, Breakfast with the Animals, etc.
  • Responsible for booking and detailing birthday parties.
  • Coordinate Zoo volunteer special events (Zoo La La, Zoofari, Toast of the Wild, etc.) schedule, run the day of volunteer orientation, and serve as the day of contact between Zoo volunteers and the special events team.
  • Following up with volunteers to provide pre/post-event communication.
  • Provide week-of-event and day-of-event assistance for special events.
  • Support Group Experience Manager and Special Events Manager with all office administrative duties, including running client payments, invoicing, ticket issuance, generating written agreements, and managing event materials stock (tickets, zip ties, event bags, birthday materials, etc.).
  • Audit group details and approve internal room bookings in Event Memo calendar weekly to ensure no double bookings between internal meetings, private events, special events, and development events.
  • Ensure details from the Banquet Event Order are fulfilled.
  • Answer phone calls and emails regarding ticket sales/exchanges, tour groups, birthday parties and events, and general Zoo questions.
  • Confirm animal appearances and exhibit requests for birthday parties.
  • Help ideate and plan new ideas for birthday parties and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Display excellent customer service skills that support the Zoo's INSPIRED visitor experience philosophy.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (including holidays, weekends, and evenings) is required. Events include daytime, evening, and weekends.

Working Conditions/Position Requirements:


  • Employment is seasonal/non-benefited; Variable hours not to exceed an annual average of 30 hours per week.
  • To be considered, candidate must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a drug & nicotine screen and background investigation.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, and physically sustain long hours of manual labor.
  • The incumbent will be exposed to outside weather conditions and must be able to lift/move/carry up to 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable to drive a Zoo vehicle. Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work a schedule that may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Experience in guest services important. Previous event experience a plus.
  • Command of Windows-based software and applications is required. Must have the manual dexterity to use computer mouse and keyboard.
